I’d like to start this off by saying I haven’t been all that interested in AMD at all until I noticed how much overpriced the 4070 series (ti,super, and ti super) and I saw bench marks around the exact same with this gpu even with a lower price
so I’m considering getting it but I need to know can I pair this with my 13900k without any problems (yes I have a tuff cpu I stream and I want to game with high fps while streaming… I play rocket league, Fortnite, call of duty, and will start playing Valorant once I build this first pc build of mine) but I’m wondering if I can pair this gpu with a Pcie 5.0 atx 3.0 compatible psu
specifically the “MSI A850G Pcie 5” psu or no because the 6800xt is Pcie 4.0?
also would I end up being bottle necked by either one of these the gpu or cpu?
The 6800XT is a Navi 21 core card, which puts it in the top tier of previous generation graphics along with the 6900XT and 6950XT. Performance-wise in straight-up rasterization the 6800XT is usually the equal of the 7800XT if not slightly better in some games, yet it is selling for much less than MSRP because it is a last-gen card. You should have no compatibility problems pairing it with your Intel system.
That said, if you want to enable ray/path tracing in any games, the 6000 series RDNA 2 is not as good in that respect. The 7000 series RDNA 3 has improved ray/path tracing, still not as good as nVidia, but much better than the 6000 series cards.
My son still games on his 6800XT and I had a 6700XT until just recently, they were both great cards and wouldn't hesitate to buy one again.
Thank you very much
this will be my first build and I’m fine with the price being kinda high
so I think I’ll end up going with the 7800
Thank you
im still wondering if ill be able to use this with my Pcie 5.0 psu but i hope ill be able to
A 6800XT draws around 300W max, a 7800XT a little less than that. You'll need 2 x 8-pin PCIE connectors, and AMD recommends a 750W or greater power supply. Since you have a 13900K which can draw 250W itself you probably shouldn't go any lower.
Okay do you know if that’s a connector I’ll have to order separately or if it comes with the gpu or what?
I don’t wanna have a psu problem
also wanna say thank you because you mentioned a very good gpu for way lower then the 4070 ti and I think super so thank you you just saved me money
According to this spec sheet, your MSI A850G Pcie 5 supports up to 6 of the 6+2-pin PCIE connectors. There's probably not 6 individual modular cables included with the PSU, I would guess 2 of the cables may have a double plug end (one cable with 2 connectors at an end) and then 2 cables with a single plug.
The 6800XT/7800XT need 2 of these 6+2-pin connectors. I would recommend using 2 separate cables, rather than one cable with dual plugs at the end.
Thank you so much for your help
