I have a problem with my graphics card. Since yesterday, my main screen goes black and turns back on every 2 seconds. The problem is related to the refresh rate; lowering it to 60Hz works fine, but setting it back to 120, 144, or 165Hz causes the problem to reoccur.
Everything was working fine until yesterday, and my screen does support 165Hz (ACER ED27OU). Can you please help me?
Processeur : AMD Ryzen 7 5800x
CGU : AMD RADEON RX 6900XT
MotherBoard : MPG B550 GAMING-PLUS
Ram : Vengeance 16 GO
The problem occur on Adrenalin 24.5.1, 24.6.1 and 24.7.1;
Hey.
I have same problem.
rx7900xt + samsung 165hz monitor.
No fixes yet to use 165hz. Temporal fix is lower your monitor refresh rate to 144. Or via custom resolution.
Hey,
I have the same problem. Main monitor blacks out for about 2-3 seconds in completely random intervals.. My setup:
CPU: Ryzen 9800X3D
GPU: Saphire Nitro + RX9070XT
MB: GIGABYTE X870E AORUS PRO
MONITOR 1: GIGABYTE GS27QXA (240 Hz) 1440p
MONITOR 2: GIGABYTE G24F2 (180 Hz) 1080p
RAM: 32 GB G.Skill 5600 CL 36 Trident Z5
I've already testes :
- reinstall drivers
- update monitors firmware
- tweaking multiply settings in Adrenaline 25.3.1
- changing DP cables
In the end only option that works for me is to set both monitors to custom 144Hz refresh rate.
Does anyone have any solution how to successfully run refresh rates higher than 144Hz?
I just upgraded from an EVGA 3080 to an Asrock Steel Legend 9070 XT yesterday and I'm having the very same issue.
My main monitor is 165hz, it does need to overclock to reach it but my 3080 has no issues with it...as soon as I upgrade the card I use DDU to delete the Nvidia drivers in Safe mode...it had no issues, but once it was out of safe mode it started flickering in and out...luckily my second monitor wasn't having the issue so I tried troubleshooting for like 2 hours until I saw someone say to lower the refresh rate and change the cable...after lowering the RR to 144hz it hasn't had any issues...the problem returns when I play some games in full screen
Not sure but your card should handle 165hz just fine. I am running a Dell AW3423DWF in 3440x1440 @165hz with no issues. I set it in SDR and HDR using True Black or Peak 1000. My gpu is the XFX Mercury AMD Radeon RX 9070XT OC Magnetic Air Edition with RGB 16GB. It might have something to do with having to oc to 165hz. I did find someone that oc to 165hz and had system crashes here:
Again, not sure but I know the card can run a monitor @165hz without issue as it does mine course I am not oc to 165hz. For reference, I am using the current Adrenaline 25.3.1.
It's not a full on crash, it's just the image will blink in and out...it'll work for a few seconds but then go black for a couple seconds, the monitor isn't disconnecting since the mouse still tracks across both monitors, ive tried both 25.3.1 and 25.3.2 and the problem is still there...lowering to 144hz isn't the end of the world but it's still frustrating...the monitor is 2560x1440
I had a friend that built a system a few months back that had some strange issues that were sporadic in nature. I suggested through my experience of building systems to him to ensure he had the latest BIOS as well as run dedicated power lines to each port of the gpu. In the past, I could daisy chain a power port or two but found on the newer generation gpus that need dedicated power lines per port.
He went back and found he didn't have the latest BIOS and had daisy chained two of the power ports. He rectified and his issues went away. Not sure if one or both fixes cured his issue since he did them at the same time. He definitely did not want to go back and mess with things after he had it working LOL to try to replicate.
I was lucky I guess with no issues so far as I recently a few weeks ago built a new system. This is the first time in 10 or more years I have gone all red with 9950x3d and RX 9070 XT. I built it using the ASUS X870E-E Strix board. Anyway, I always check BIOS for latest and dedicate power lines to GPU port and for that matter the CPU motherboard power ports during build. The BIOS was out of date so updated before installing Windows.
I'm not sure if this will help or not but figured worth a suggestion in hopes it might fix your issue. I know how fustrating it can be when things do not work as indicated.
I did end up doing a BIOS update, i already had separate power cables going to the GPU since my 3080, I upgraded my CPU,Motherboard and RAM last year to a 7900x CPU
ASUS B650E-F Strix board
G-skill Trident Z-Neo 64GB
So with the 9070XT I'm full Team Red for the first time. Decided to do fresh install of monitor drivers and factory reset it from the OSD.
Then i started from the lowest Overclock and kept increasing it by increments of 5 until the flickering started...I got it to 160hz stable...I could try continuing to increase it by 1hz each time but 160hz is good enough...im just gonna chalk it up to my monitor getting old and it just being bad luck that it couldn't hold a 165hz OC coinciding with me upgrading my graphics card as a coincidence...ive also hit that point where everything is working and I'm not risking going over a cliff for another 5hz
Interesting that lowering the refresh rate seems to fix the issue. I have seen many people say the same thing regarding this problem, also seems a bit strange or maybe coincidental that most people I see having these 2-3 second black screens are using monitors with 165hz DP 1.2.
Maybe the problem is down to these graphics cards not liking DP 1.2.
I have seen some threads where a newer monitor fixes this.
my monitor is a MSI MAG322CQR 165hz DP
1.2
my partners monitor is a newer MSI 240hz
DP 1.4 (sorry don’t remember the model off my head)
but she has no problems with these black screens.
Im going to use her monitor today and she can use mine and if I get no problems but she does then problem solved.
I will post an update if it works or not.
UPDATE: I have now swapped both our computers around and her PC gets the exact same black screens on my monitor
so it looks to be the monitor causing the issues MAG322CQR 165hz DP 1.2
No problems on MAG 275CQRXF 240hz DP 1.4
I don’t think the monitor is faulty, I believe there is some sort of issue with the cards backward compatibility of DP 1.2 perhaps
Im no expert by any means, could be an AMD driver issue I don’t know
Just wanted to share what I’ve learned as not everyone has another monitor available to them for testing this
Looks like I have to buy a new one
Having the exact same problem here
2-3 second black screens at random intervals, sometimes even just once per day which makes it really hard to pinpoint the problem
My pc is all brand new
9800x3d
sapphire nitro + 9070xt
corsair dominator platinum 32gb 6000mt
corsair rmx 1000 shift psu
gigabyte x870e spurs elite WiFi 7 morherboard
I built my GF almost an identical pc except she has an nzxt 1000w power supply and a gigabyte x870 ice motherboard but she doesn’t have any problems
Really not sure what’s going on here and is a very infuriating problem as I can’t replicate it
it’s very random
kind of hoping the problem is my monitor and as of now I have a second monitor plugged in waiting for another black screen to happen to see if that one goes black too
really hope someone can find a solution to this problem as it’s pretty disheartening to say the least having forked out so much money on new hardware
When you mentioned your monitor was DP 1.2 I realized you were spot on...my ASUS ROG STRIX XG27AQ has a 1.2 DP and is the one causing my issue...yea im guessing it's something driver related that doesn't play nice with DP 1.2 at higher refresh rates for whatever odd reason...considering the fix is lowering Referesh rate until stable I don't think it'll be high priority for them to fix it but anything that tells me my GPU isn't faulty right after buying assuages my fears
Yeah not a nice feeling thinking you have a bad GPU.
Especially in a time where they are in such short supply , who knows how long RMA could take…. Perhaps months!
Also not the best solution to the problem, throw more money at it buying a new monitor
or play games at 144hz capped on a card that can do so much better than that.
