Apex legends / Radeon software settings

Hey.

Running 3600x + 5700xt + M.2 drive and supported freesync monitor from Asus.

Since day 1 playing Apex I am having following major issues given I want to play the game on a competitive level:

  1. unstable FPS up to extent where someone drops armor in game which results in fps drops for me instantly not to mention other effects
  2. game feels just laggy, jittery despite connection being ok/good, feels like I am playing with synch on
  3. picture quality just sucks AA on or off honestly makes minor difference, image sharpening makes things actually worse. here I am playing full specs on 2k and I still have worse picture quality than some streamers on Twitch with 1080p quality

Goals I am searching for in game:

  • good contrast of colors so that enemy models stand out when moving not blend with "the background"
  • smooth picture quality, check out any say Hiswattson on Twitch
  • stable 144 fps preferably on as high quality as possible

So far I have tried:

- numerous drivers with full factory reset install

- settings in game from full on to full off, weirdly FPS drops are present on full on 2k as well as full off 720p which is the weirdest I have seen so far

- all synchs and settings available on youtube / web regarding "best settings for radeon in Apex" tried out

Please share your experience and pictures of in game images, thanks!

I had frame drops in Fortnite. After applying the fixes in this video, they went away:

I am not sure what helped, but my guess is that maybe turning off Windows 10 Gaming Mode in Windows settings did the trick.

Do watch the video, it really does help.

Thanks for the tip, watched it...**bleep** intro was long

Most of the seetings were already there except the ULPS - first time hearing about it. Changed that and cleaned also shaders. I guess latter one made my game mega laggy for the first few play-though...that was painful.

FPS still dropping like before, picture quality might have improved a bit.

Anti-lag definitely messes things up, game feels the same as with free/v-synch on - AMD unfortunately does not deliver on the description...well I mean maybe input lag is matching visuals but performance wise it feels like on ice without skates. Sad story ... but tbh that has been my experience so far with AMD software = better turn all AMD "helpers" off and then maybe performance will be decent. Speaking as FPS game enthusiast, for tipple As that just need to look good and do 40-60 fps of course you can crank things up as you wish to get as much eye-candy as possible.

Will give this version of settings a go but it is far from ideal still.

p.s. one solution I have in mind next for sure - go team green, based on the feedback sounds like that one works with Apex every **bleep** time.

Small update - actually discovered one thing that did make a significant improvement => in bios I changed GPU slot settings from "Auto" to using PCI 3 as max performance slot.

Instantly my FPS which usually were in vicinity of 200-220 with less clutter on a screen in Apex shoot up to a point of 240+ which started to actually create game related issues/lags given Apex as many say is struggling to run above 240 fps, so I had to cap it now as in places I started to get 250-260 which 100% was not there before.

Update: Change of PCI slot settings + locking FPS to 144(3) did not yield any significant smoothness in the game.

Only difference is that before average FPS were close to 200 with typical fluctuations between 70-100 while in the ship before drop and 130-240 in game, now average FPS shows closer to 100 with similar fluctuations in game just in lower figures.

Sad story #waitingfor4000series or official solution from AMD.

A quick update so there is at least some info - currently somewhat playable settings YET STILL ON 90 locked FPS to avoid huge FPS drops and unplayable quality I have found are: JUST DISABLE ALL POSSIBLE SETTINGS in RADEON SOFTWARE.

No matter how good they sound on paper every visual enhancement for me makes Apex in game graphics more grainy, pixelated, distorted. So all settings now are on disabled or off except Texture filtering quality = High as I can't turn that stuff off.

Can't wait to get my hands on some cheap 3070, AMD for Apex just sucks majorly and every decent player who aims at competitive level so far has confirmed to me that Nvidia is the choice of the GPU given how much extra you get from them - shadow filters, light filters, in game Nvidia Reflex to minimize input lag, stable FPS even on 1080 not to mention that 1680 puts out rock solid 144 FPS on high settings etc.

AMD... does nothing, keeps crashing, overclock gave worse results and just extra temps and energy consumption... sad story.

Exact same problem brother 3 years now... Ive tried everything seriously... Have the same cpu gpu and a BENQ XL2546K. FPS range is 110-240, frkn unplayable. Oww did i mention 5+crashes per day.. Ive made this account just to let you know that you are not alone. Getting 3080 ti next month, if the problems remain ill get a 12700K too.  If you go GREEN you ll never go back.
