Hello everyone
I'm thinking about getting a new PC with which I want to create videos with Davinci Resolve and transcode videos with ffmpeg. In other words, I have two main use cases.
1. creating videos: In addition to family videos, this involves various content. These are all created with Davinci Resolve.
2. transcoding: I have so far encoded family videos all to HEVC and would like to encode this to AV1 in the future (I don't think I will transcode all HEVC to AV1)
With this in mind, I would like a GPU that supports hardware decoding and encoding of h264, HEVC and AV1 as well as the features of Davinci Resolve. I would also like to switch from FullHD to 4K, which may also make a difference. I would also like to water-cool the GPU (which is probably not possible with the W7700 - even though Igor once showed how an AMD Radeon Pro can be water-cooled). You should probably also know that my OS is Ubuntu. I will probably put together a new Ryzen platform and am considering an 8 or 16 core CPU - whether with or without 3D cache I don't know yet - probably not.
1000 euros is quite a lot for me, so I was wondering whether the RX 7800 XT would be a better choice. However, I haven't found any information that it has the same technological support for Davinci Resolve, nor whether it has the same support for decoding and encoding h264, HEVC and AV1. Personally I think it should, as they both use the same GPU chip. But couldn't find it confirmed anywhere.
Are there explicit functional differences? e.g. that the RX 7800 XT can only decode and encode one stream at a time? Are there differences in terms of use in Davinci Resolve such as Unreal Engine? What are the technological differences between the two GPUs?
I have already spent hours on various platforms and AMD sites and documents to find these differences and actually found only different information, but no identical, which allowed the correct conclusions. For example, the RX 7800 XT and the Pro W7700 are not listed on this page: https://www.amd.com/en/products/graphics/radeon-for-creators/video-editing.html#tabs-b6a36ad588-item...
Thanks for your support to clarify my question,
