I switched from RX 6800 to RX 7900 XT (both XFX models) and I noticed that compared to RX 6800 15% minimum fan speed (~550 RPM), the RX 7900 XT has a minimum fan speed of 23% (>900 RPM). Both have the zero RPM feature, but otherwise the lowest option is 15% and 23% repsectively. Why the difference?
I have a 'silent' build that often plays less demanding/legacy titles (but still need the 7900 XT's performance from time to time for newer releases) and the fans on the 7900 XT are clearly audible and the most noisy part of my rig at their minimum speed. The fans engage even at idle and then cool the card to its zero RPM range and then engage again. I run my rig with 6 case fans.
I'm sure that 15% minimum fan speed would be enough to keep it cool at idle or in less demanding games and be less noticeable when engaging the fans if needed. Even 10% would be enough for light use.
I'm staying with the RX 6800 for now.
Is it at all possible to allow for more flexibility with the fans at lower ranges? Maybe via driver update?
