7800XT suddenly not detected - requires full driver reinstall

Hello all, I've been having an issue with my 7800XT (Powercolor hellhound).  I've seen all the issues described here about crashing to a black screen, and mine is somewhat similar but a bit different as well.  The issue happens randomly, sometimes in-game, sometimes just navigating my desktop, and sometimes when I'm away from the computer entirely.

Suddenly both of my displays (both connected via dp) will suddenly go black, but my computer will not crash.  If I'm playing a game, or listening to music, watching youtube, etc. I can still hear all the sounds of them, i.e. Windows has not crashed, it seems my GPU is suddenly just not being detected.  I can shut down my computer and reboot it with my power button, which will usually land me back at my desktop.  Sometimes in 800x600, but sometimes still at 1400.  Task manager indicates no GPU whatsoever, and when I try to launch Adrenaline I'm met with "The version of AMD software that you have launched is not compatible with your currently installed AMD graphics driver."

To fix this issue of the GPU no longer being detected, every time I have one of these crashing episodes, I have to uninstall Adrenaline + display drivers, and reinstall them completely.

Some things of note - 3 out of the 6 times this has happened was when the computer was idling and may have happened around the 10 minute mark when windows is told to put the displays into auto-sleep.  I disabled auto-sleep settings for display adapters to try and mitigate this, but the other 3 times i've had this issue I was either just watching youtube videos or gaming.

Hello have you found any solution or the cause of the issue? I have the exact same problem and think about getting a refund because i dont wanna deal with it

I actually did, it wound up being my PSU not having enough power for my rig, I upgraded from the 750 to 1000 and the issues stopped.

Interesting that you say it was your PSU.

I'm running a 6700 XT with a Ryzen 5500 (not exactly crazy power hungry) and I have a 1000W PSU but I'm experiencing exactly the same issue.

So far it seems that my PC is now incapable of waking from sleep mode without doing the same crash you described, also as you described it stops Adrenalin from working yet (in device manager) still recognizes my GPU.

brand new build here. same issue.

RX7900GRE

Ryzen 5 7600 X
Cooler master 750W gold

Lexar Ares 32gb RAM

It's getting to the point I want to just get a refund. I can play any new games I want, and it shreds graphics, then at some random interval, for whatever reason, screen cuts to black, sound is still on , shortly after it cuts out again and I need to hard restart.

When I do the driver is disabled in device manager. I reinstall the drivers and it's back to normal till it cuts off again.

Extremely frustrating, my PSU should be enough to support this, and evidently is for some time when gaming. Whats strange as well is sometimes I will play older games (Half life 1, Stalker 1 etc) and it still cuts out the exact same as if im playing helldivers 2.

Can anyone help

Consider trying a PSU upgrade. I had a 750w as well, which should have been enough in theory. As soon as I upgraded to a 1000w I never had the issue again which I posted about in my original post.

Update motherboard bios to latest. If it is TUF gaming X570 plus, it has latest bios update fixing sleep/hibernate issues with CPU.
