Windows isnt booting up anymore

I first had this issue around October of 2023 where after a windows update it was just stuck in boot. The first time it happened, I waited for a couple of hours and then forced shutdown and turned it on again except this time it said something about recovery while booting (not the blue screen or anything, just something along the lines of recovery/troubleshooting right above the loading animation). However instead of taking me to a different page/screen it just restarted and got stuck in the initial boot.

I tried going in to the bios and resetting it but nothing worked. Turned of fast boot but that didn't work either and in the end even disabled secure boot hoping that might help. However the result remained unchanged. After a little bit of research, I found out that resetting the CMOS might help but unfortunately that was no use either.

After that, I tried installing previous versions of windows (since at the time I was on 11). I was hoping that if it was a driver issue, it can be fixed or the problem just might be ignored by a previous version of windows like windows 7. Oh, I forgot the mention, I tried reinstalling windows 11 before this but was stuck in boot again. This same issue happened while installing windows 7 like even before the installation started it was stuck in that pretty 'starting windows' animation. So was out of the option too.

After a bit more research, I found out that it could be an issue with the ram and to check if it is or not, I could use this thing(OS i think?) called memtest. So I made a bootable drive, booted in to it and ran the test which lasted for a really long time and it showed that there was no issues at all. My options were slowly running out and I was getting a little scared.

This is when I remembered something that I tried in the past. I remembered using ubuntu using a usb on my mac a couple of years back when that had an issue. So I tried doing the same thing on this laptop and it worked. I then installed ubuntu on my drive to get rid of windows completely so that I try reinstalling it again. One thing I found out was that my trackpad was not working. I also remembered seeing and I2C issue for the amd driver. Looked it up and found out that it can cause issues with keyboard and mouse drivers along with other things.

Anyways I was just happy to see things work out. However just like my relationships, this happiness could not last that long. Windows would refuse to make it past the initial loading boot. At the same time it felt a bit nice since I thought I aleast have a way to work on things and I tried my best. I installed amd drivers hoping that would fix the trackpad issue (which just might fix the windows issue). However, installing the drivers never helped. I ended up giving up for a while so that I could relax and come up with fresh ideas.

After three weeks, I found something new. I found something called xinput which might help showing the drivers. I was supposed to type xinput list but surprisingly xinput alone worked and out of the blue my trackpad started working. It even started working in the bios and stopped right after I booted in to ubuntu. I repeated the process and it worked again. Big win. I was able to install windows this time and everything worked fine. However it did not last that long. Updating windows was fine. No isses happed over there. However, while installing the amd drivers, I noticed the I2C thing again as one of the 6 options selected along with chipset and the others. After this installation, the trackpad stopped working again. I went to device manager instantly and found out that it was an I2C issue in the mouse section. After tinkering with microsoft's support website for a bit (and also a couple of other websites), I found out that uninstalling that driver would be fine since windows would reinstall it except windows never did and we were back to getting stuck in boot again except none of the solutions that I tried the first time is working again. Sorry for making this too long. I appreciate any help I can get.

Here are the specs:

Processor: AMD Ryzen 9 5900hx with radeon graphics x 16

Have you tried, by any chance,  Windows troubleshooting menu - Repair startup to see if it fixes your Windows to be able to start normally?

You can reach Windows Troubleshooting Menu by restarting your laptop 3 times in a roll. By the third time it should automatically go into Windows Diagnostics and then at the bottom click on repair windows.

Or run USB Flash drive Windows Installation and click on Repair Windows instead of installing Windows.

Yeah I did try that the first time, but it just never went to that blue screen. It always got stuck on the loading part of the boot

So you could never actually enter the Windows Installation part to actually install or repair your Windows?

Make sure you have the Flash drive correctly formatted to be used for Windows Installation. Also make sure in BIOS you select the Flash drive to run.

You can use a program like Rufus or something similar to install the Windows installation files in a Flash drive.

NOTE: if you already have Windows 10/11 installed on your laptop by restarting your laptop 3x before entering Windows it should automatically go to Windows Diagnostic and then Windows Menu.

As a last resort you can always "RESET" or "RESTORE" your laptop back to its factory settings and then start updating everything again. See if the same issues occurs.

Possibly you might have some hardware issues. Your laptop should have a Diagnostic tool to check your laptop for both hardware and software issues.

I have tried both actually (as in reinstallation of windows as well as repairing windows) but neither of them worked. The problem with the diagnostic tool is that it's only available on windows (the one by asus at least). I am guessing the issue is because of a corrupted amd driver (for the I2C controller) since that is what caused the issue the first time. I also forgot to mention that the trackpad is not showing up in the list of input devices (linked to the I2C). If I can figure out a way to fix that, I would be able to reinstall windows.

A corrupted driver wouldn't prevent you from doing a clean install of Windows.

So basically you have no mouse function. Can't you use the keyboard to do the same thing as the mouse (Trackpad) to move around?

Found your Asus Support download page for your laptop: https://rog.asus.com/us/laptops/rog-strix/2021-rog-strix-g15-advantage-edition-series/helpdesk_downl...

Download the Touchpad driver and see if you can install that to see if your touchpad will start working again.

Also make sure you have the latest BIOS Version installed:

Try downloading the Touchpad driver and preload it with your Windows Installation to see if your Touchpad would work when Windows Installation starts up.

EDIT: According to Asus you laptop either has a 2 year or 3 year Warranty. If it is still under Warranty I suggest your open a Asus Warranty ticket to have your laptop checked: file:///D:/Internet%20Downloads/us_Gaming%20NB.pdf
