Stuttering in Modern Warfare 2 After Updating to 22.11.2 driver

Today after updating to 22.11.2, I experienced HORRIBLE stuttering during mw2 (This mostly occurs when I first load into a new area). This was previously not present and NOTHING in my system changed. The game will lock up for 5 SECONDS at a time, rendering it unplayable. The only difference was that I mistakenly updated the drivers. I thought we were past this AMD, here we go again and just in time for the 7900xtx release.

With my RX 6800 XT and Ryzen 7 5700X I have no issues with everything turned to max at 1080p and 150% resolution scaling. Can you screenshot your graphics settings? Maybe someone can help.

Try using DDU to uninstall the drivers and then restart and reinstall and tell me what happens.

Worst part is you cant even play warzone if you try going back to previous drivers.

Who's say that? I'm using drivers from 2021 and Warzone works perfectly fine.

Have you tried using DDU to uninstall drivers and reinstall fresh?

Yes i did and it never worked. I tried DDU twice and the amd one to remove drivers and a factory reset. Finally gave up and went back to 22.5.1

if 22.5.1 works for you then that is what works. Everything after 22.5.1 has been optional as in not as thoroughly tested as the recommended.

I thought 20.11.2 is now the recommended though. At least that's what it says on the site.

You are correct. I was not aware of this until moments ago when I got a reply informing me of the change. 22.5.1 was the recommended until the WHQL version of 22.11.2 was released on the 8th of this month. My apologies.

I was not aware they had changed the recommended to 22.11.2 when the WHQL version was released. 22.11.2 is the recommended, but if 22.5.1 works better for you there is little reason to use anything else aside from a few optimizations.

Sometimes the drivers just have issues. 22.5.1 was the recommended for a really long time and you aren't missing out on much when it comes to optimizations.

22.11.2 blanks out my second screen but that's been going on now for several driver versions now with no end in sight.

I find myself perusing the rtx 4xxx cards and sooner or later I will bite and make this go away for good.

Yup had issues with black screens for the last 2 driver updates.

As I stated earlier, everything after 22.5.1 has been optional. This means it is less thoroughly tested.

This is completely false and you should be ashamed to put out this fake news as a mod. Current RECOMMENDED version is 22.11.2

The original release was not a recommended whql, i'm running it & shows as beta in gpu-z.

I only noticed the description change several hours ago, so it has recently received whql status as the original release status was waiting on whql.

The driver date is now also newer than original.

You are in fact correct. The original was in fact optional. It had recommended 22.5.1 until 22.11.2 WHQL was released.

The original was released 11/30/2022. While WHQL was released on the 8th of this month.

My apologies.

I tried a different driver and I got the same message and the software wont open or work. I emailed customer care.  The driver however did install but I want to be able to use freesync and stuff through adrenaline. I'll try to attach the strange error I recieved. drivermessed.png

Reinstall windows entirely like I did and never choose AMD again.

22.5.1 was latest stable for me. Anything since, even latest recommended WHQL 22.11.2 is giving me black screens even outside of ANY games, just while regularly working, alt/tab between apps etc..

I'm still using drivers from 2021. No issues with no games. Tested the newer drivers, it usually takes about a year for newer drivers to catch up with performance and stability vs the older drivers. Always been that way. At least for my setups/gpus/testing.

I haven't been able to use any since last March without terrible stuttering in games. Installing the March drivers is an instant fix but now I'm fighting with windows to leave the display driver alone.

What's your GPU and setup(Ram, OS, CPU)?

Also if you're talking about after you uninstall the newest drivers, when you restart your computer or something it keeps installing a certain driver? If so, i had that problem, i use dsplay Driver Uninstaller DDU . Fixed my issue.

you can google how to stop windows update from installing drivers, it's a yes/no option in system settings somewhere

Haven't played this game but last good driver for me is 22.10.3 (and that's after disabling hardware acceleration on everything and making sure sharpening is disabled in the AMD software so I don't get black screen).

Anything after 22.10.3 gives me black screen even after disabling what I mentioned above.

I've updated a few computers to 20.11.2, and no problems have been noted so far.  These are running AMD 6000 and 5000 series GPUs, along with Ryzen 5000 and 3000 CPUs.

As Albert Einstein said, "I could have done so much more with a Big Al's Computer!".

Two computers running on it without issues.

No modifications to setup or registry.

One is a 5000 series and the other an ageing RX580

I wish there was some official statement from these companies that explains the issues around MPO (multiplane overlay). Since both Nvidia and AMD have issues with it I'm guessing that it's Microsoft's fault, because they create it and have documentation for it on their website for how gpu's/drivers can support it etc, but because Nvidia has a larger market  share they may be higher priority than AMD to get them working. Either way, all the drivers after 22.5.1 give me issues until I turn off MPO. It's easy to do. You can google this if you want to try it. You just have to add an entry to the Windows registry. I don't know how many of these complaints around here are related but I think it's a good chunk of them. I for one would appreciate open communication about things like this.
