Starting from 22.4.1, when FreeSync is on, waking up from sleep causes driver to crash and recover.

Possibly related: https://www.reddit.com/r/Amd/comments/un448b/rtg_engineers_please_acknowledge_and_fix_the_navi/

OS: Windows 10 LTSC 2021, also confirmed on Windows 11 22H2

Graphics Card: Sapphire RX 6700 XT PULSE

Radeon Software version: 22.4.1 - present (22.7.1)

Monitor: ASUS VG279Q, via DisplayPort, cable is from BestBuy

CPU: Ryzen 2700X, no overclock or undervolt

Motherboard: MSI B350M MORTAR, tried BIOS versions 7A37v1K - 7A37v1O5

Problem persists when memories are all at 2133MHz, no overclock or undervolt

Symptoms:

When I put the computer to sleep (via start menu) and wake it up, the monitor doesn't display for tens of seconds - a few minutes, sometimes it doesn't wake up at all and requires a force reboot.

In the times that it does come back, after unlocking, I'm greeted with "AMD crash defender has detected an issue with your display driver..."

Event viewer shows that amdwddmg stopped responding and successfully recovered.

Debugging attempt:

I tried many versions of driver, including 22.1.1, 22.2.1, 22.3.1, 22.3.2, 22.4.1, 22.5.1, and ultimately 22.7.1. With every driver install, I check the "factory reset" checkbox.

All versions starting from 22.4.1 reproduces the issue, and it's not present in versions up to 22.3.2.

When I'm on driver 22.4.1 and above, in Radeon Software - "gearbox" Settings - Display, if I turn off FreeSync Premium, the problem goes away. However, this also prevents FreeSync in games, which is a dealbreaker.

If the information provided here is not be enough to diagnose the issue, I'm happy to provide more logs and other debugging helps so please tell me how. I'm currently running the driver from Windows Update on W11 22H2 (30.0.13023.4001 in device manager) that doesn't have the problem.

Exactly same issue here. I'm using 21.10.2 in my 6600xt till this day because of this. Can't give up on freesync...

Would you mind trying 22.3.1 or 22.3.2 and sharing your experience?

bump... I haven't found a solution or another potential cause of the problem yet.
