SMBus driver for A320M-S2H V2 motherboard (Socket AM4; B350/rev. 1.1 chipset)

Hi

I ran a third party program to list drivers that may need updating (iOrbit's Driver booster 11).

It suggested that AMD SMBus Version 5.12.0.38 15/09/22 should be updated to 2.0.0.14 18/07/23. Windows 10 64bit

I seen it also listed in the release notes of AMD Chipset Drivers Revision Number: 6.02.07.2300: https://www.amd.com/en/support/kb/release-notes/rn-ryzen-chipset-6-02-07-2300

(second last under package contents) when I searched for compatible drivers for the B350/rev 1.1.

But when I ran the AMD auto detect and install tool, it upgraded from a previous 2021 driver version to 5.12.0.38 15/09/22 only.

I skipped the manual selection of the driver files, it went to the next window of 4 driver update suggestions which included the SMBus.

Should I leave it as it is or let the third party tool install the ver: 2.0.0.14?

I have a blue screening issue likely to do with either graphics card or integrated graphics so I don't want to be adding problems.

I'm not a computer tech, but it looked like the auto-detect is different to the release notes here.

Regards

David

Trust a driver from your PC manufacturer over a driver from the chip manufacturer, because the PC manufacturer is more likely to have tested new drivers with the PC manufacturer's typical and unusual hardware configurations.  Newer drivers from a chip manufacturer might be worth trying to resolve an issue or test a capability.  Trust a driver recommended by the PC maker or chip maker over one recommended by a third-party driver updater, because the chip maker has tested each driver version on various platforms with various other manufacturer's drivers prior to release, while the third-party update utilities mainly recommend by just comparing driver version numbers, unless and until they get negative feedback on a recommendation and start to filter out bad calls.   When a third-party driver updater finds a later version number, it will typically try to install the new version silently in the background using manufacturer-provided utilities.  That attempt may fail without a clear explanation when an incompatibility is detected, because the updater automates most responses and hides most messages.  If you use the third-party utility to identify the new driver version, then find and try that version's installer from the manufacturer's website, you're more likely to obtain an error message that clearly identifies a detected incompatibility.  Specifically in your case, I'd trust the AMD installer over IOBit Driver Booster.

When you have confirmed that a Driver Booster recommendation is not valid for your PC, you may toggle an "Ignore" switch to remove that driver version (or that version and all future versions) from the Driver Booster updatable drivers list.  A similar option will be available if you use Driver Booster to uninstall a driver version that didn't work for you.Ignore from future scansIgnore from future scans
