I am trying to help a friend out and get an older Dell 3rd generation core i5 to game for his son at the cheapest price possible, so he was able to get an RX 6500xt at launch...
I've installed a new 2tb SSD, and even a 750w power supply (I wasn't sure what he was going to get, but he may progress further in PC gaming later).
Anyway, PC boots up nicely. However when I begin to install the drivers, it flickers black constantly with no image displayed. Occasionally it seems like the Dell logo flashes through very quickly in a solor distorted way
I swapped out with my son's HP (4th gen core i5) and it runs smoothly... Well, as smoothly as possible for a 6500xt.
I installed my son's gtx 1060 in the Dell, and it works fine, so I know both the PCI slot and the card itself work.
I remember an old problem with the bios on legacy vs UEFI with a card years ago, so I tried changing that, but to no avail. Same problem after that too.
I'm out of ideas here. Of course I disabled the onboard drivers when installing as well....
