Ryzen 7 5800X and B450M Bazooka V2 mATX

im trying to upgrade my PC and save as much money as possible, I currently have a B450M Bazooka V2 mATX, and a Ryzen 5 2600, and I wanted to know if the motherboard has any issues with thermal throttling when with a ryzen 7 5800X or something similar.

Ryzen 5 2600 TDP rating is 65 Watts while the Ryzen 7 5800X is 105 Watts.

So you will need a strong CPU Cooler to prevent the 5800X from overheating. If the CPU Cooler you are using now is rated above 150 Watts TDP that might prevent it from overheating under heavy loads.

The Maximum Operating Temperature for the 5800X is 90c. So as long as the CPU temperature doesn't reach 90c it shouldn't throttle unless the Motherboard itself throttles the CPU.

Motherboard throttling could be due reaching maximum PPT, CPU Power, TDC, EDC, or SoC Power.

If you really want to save as many bucks as you can.

Get a 5700X3D or even a 5500X3D, the 5700X3D can be spotted at 200ish. Then ditch the Spire that probably came with your 2600 and go for a 280 AIO.

I wouldn't go too far on the CPU side for two reasons.

  • X3D generally consumes less power than the non X3D
  • Your board is not that great with power delivery

IMPORTANT: Don't forget to see on the Board support page the right BIOS and Support for that CPU.

The 5700X3D can really go in for the kill if all you want is games.
