Hi,
I've been given an old Acer 7551G-7459 that was meant for the garbage. It had significant damage but did power on. The LCD panel, keyboard, and shell were broken but connecting an external monitor worked. I found the same model laptop on Ebay for cheap and bought it. The Ebay model was in fantastic condition but there was no display, even from an external monitor. I swapped motherboards and now it boots fine and the display works. I threw a spare HDD in her and installed Ubuntu. Mostly everything seems to be working fine except the OS did not detect any network devices. Fiddled around some and eventually installed Windows 7 instead thinking that maybe it was Ubuntu causing the issue.
Both the Ethernet and wireless network adapters are missing in Windows. They are not listed in Device Manager. I've tried manually installing the proper drivers but that didn't work. At this point, I would normally go to Acer's site and load up the drivers page for this model laptop and start installing all the relevant ones. Well Acer seems to have completely forgotten about this model because searching for model, SNID, or serial # bring up nothing. So I need to find alternate locations for drivers. First up is the chipset driver. The specs for the motherboard has AMD RX880M as the chipset but of course that's not listed on AMD's site for drivers. They have the 880G but I believe that's different.
So my question is where do I find the chipset driver for the AMD RX880M chipset? I'm hoping installing that will fix the missing network devices problem.
