I have a 7900 XTX

I just updated my display driver from 23.8.2 to 23.11.1

After updating I restarted my PC, however after this it never turned back on. It just stays stuck on black screens. I can't tell if Windows loads up at all since none of my monitors show any signs of life at all.

I then turned off my PC and swapped my gpu from OC bios to silent and that allowed me to get back into Windows as normal. Odd. I switched back to OC and issue resumes. I then unplugged all 3 of my monitors and my vr headset from the GPU and plugged one monitor in to the integrated graphics port (7950X) and this allowed me to boot into safe mode to run DDU. After ddu did its thing and windows restarted, the same thing happened without changing anything at all in-between the restart. I was still only plugged in to integrated graphics. I had to hold the power button to turn the PC off and then when I turned it back on again it worked for whatever reason for me to get back in and reinstall the drivers.

With drivers freshly installed the issue persists. I will try downgrading back to 23.8.2 but not sure if that will help at this point.

Also, whenever it does boot now I get this:

 indicating it's not posting after all.

Okay it seems to be fixed.

Here are my full system specs in case anyone else runs into this:

• Monitor: 3x Asus ROG STRIX XG32VC
• Motherboard: ASUS ROG Strix X670E-F Gaming WIFI6E
• CPU: AMD 7950X
• GPU: AMD 7900 XTX (PowerColor Red Devil)
• RAM: G.Skill Trident Z5 NEO RGB Series 64GB (2 x 32GB) DDR5-6000 CL32-38-38-96
• PSU: Corsair HX1000
• Storage: Samsung 990 Pro SSD 2TB

Here are the steps I took in the exact order I took them:

1. Downloaded latest motherboard bios, latest chipset drivers, the 23.11.1 gpu driver and amd clenaup utility.
2. Explicitly uninstalled chipset drivers
   1. (I saw a note indicating a big change between chipset versions that I was upgrading to and that I should do an uninstall first)
3. Installed latest chipset for AM5
   1. For some reason the latest chipset drivers on my motherboard's driver page were newer than the latest X670E chipset drivers on AMD's site... I picked the ones on my motherboard page.
4. I ran amd cleanup utility to get it to restart into safe mode for me.
5. Restarted PC from amd cleanup utility prompt. Encountered the same issue which required me to turn off and on multiple times until I finally got the motherboard to post in safe mode
   1. (see screenshot below. It seems this had nothing to do with whether I was on integrated graphics or not and had nothing to do with my GPU's OC/Silent mode as I've been on OC this whole time since after I downgraded back to 23.8.2)
6. I pressed F1 to enter setup, at which point I ran bios upgrade to 1709. I was on 0922 as I'm on team don't touch bios if nothing is wrong.
   1. I think this bios upgrade is what did the trick. But I'm posting everything I did just in case. Not sure if it was the upgrade clearing CMOS or the upgrade itself but once this process was done things were starting to look normal.
   2. It was very scary because up until this point I would have to hard turn off the PC after some time of it not booting and turn it back on again. DO NOT do this. The bios update was able to turn the system off and on again as normal and the process was able to complete without me touching anything even during the longest period of black screen which was the scariest part for me.
7. Once the bios update was done I went back into setup and restored my bios settings which I have always had backed up to my USB. Saved and let it restart. I did not have to hard reset at any point.
8. The PC booted into safe mode at which point amd cleanup utility did it's thing.
9. I restarted again after it was done and again everything is looking normal. No need for me to interfere.
10. After booting back into windows I installed 23.11.1 and restarted.
11. No issues and things seem to be back to normal.
