I have a 7800x3d system running W10 system parts:
Mobo - Asus x670e proart wifi
2 nvme x4 drives:
2 Tb as boot/os (wd_black SN850x)
4 Tb for games/tools (lexar NM790)
32 Gb ram running at expo 6000 ( 2 x G.Skill F-5-6000J3238F 16G ) - turning it at stock speeds does not help either
GPU asus tuf rx 6800 xt gaming oc
10 Gb connected to my 10 Gb LAN
Problems discovered this far:
Games suddenly hang or crash or FREEZE like 250 C degrees below 0
Many cases the games hang or crash and the only solution is kill the game or switch user get it killed
Mant times nothing helps really except pushing the power button to get my machine to go off (the dreaded FREEZES)
Nothing works anymore it just hangs forever
So now i am constant checking windows and steam if the files are corrupted and detected that almost always at least 1 or more files end up being corrupted
Checking all hardware does not reveal any errors so i guess it must be something else
The most silly is that it kinda always show that some files are corrupted
Now i disabled the PBO stuff as much as i can to see if that solves something but i really have no clue what is going on
I am thinking about switching back to an old intel machine, as this AMD system gives me a very heavy negative feeling about this system.
I is unbelievable that everytime i play a game i end up having to check my OS and all games it something is corrupted again
File corruption typically occurs either due to unstable memory / memory errors (and you state already tried disabling EXPO) or due to storage drive errors.
Try installing the game to the other drive and see if the instability improves.
Many weeks later and endless testing shows that i think the memory set i bought is probably the culpritt as other people seem to have the same problem with G.Skill memory
The switch between game drive did not solve anything have even played with bios settings to see what can be the cause of this corruption
According to others some settings in the bios should solve problems
Even though it is in the list of compatible mem it looks like they might have bought cheaper mem chips
Even with 5200 Mhz i still get corrupted files
update 2
Lowering it even further to 4800 and 4000 did not help either, still getting corrupted files when check with steam on the games i see on every game even not played at all Steam finds corrupted files and replace them
I am at a loss what it really could be.
According to the shop the memory is good they have tested it.
Testing it myself with memory test does not reveal any problems these tests all show 0 errors
I have reinstalled steam and all games over and over but when i check with steam it finds again corrupted files
Am getting frustrated that i can not find the culpritt as i start to think something
else is the culpritt but what or why does elude me
I also tested the mem at 4000 Mhz and guess what still corrupted files
Again the company i bought the parts from could not find any errors
I have reset the bios to factory default settings but nothing seem to solve the problem and the company could not find anything wrong in my system.
But the reiinstall of windows did not help either at all
So i am at a point where i have no idea why this happens the only thing with the lower memory speed is that the games no longer have crashed till now
To be clear this pc ended up on place 100 on 3dmark benchmark with no overclocks at all, those who where faster are all overclocked ones
Even below this pc where loads of overclocked ones
But i have been changing things alot to get rid of the crashes and constant corruption of files
So have no clue if it really is the memory or something else
I ran many tests on both nmve and nothing found on them either formatted the 4TB also and tested which did not reveal any changes
My biggest problem with steam is that it does not reveal what files are being replaced, which i already reported to steam that i should be able to see what is being replaced so i can check myself if the files are really damaged or not
Is it only Steam game files that experience file corruption? Is it only during Steam games that the PC freezes or crashes?
File corruption is something that typically happens system wide. Meaning if you are getting corrupted game files you should also be getting corrupted data or operating system files. This would be true regardless of which hardware was bad.
Does the PC ever freeze or crash outside of playing a Steam game? Do you ever get a Windows error indicating file corruption? Do you ever get a CHKDSK message when booting the PC?
