New AMD drivers forcing PC hard reboot after launching Second Life

Hello,

When running Second Life, my PC will reboot seemingly at random with no forewarning. This started to happen when I updated my graphics driver to a version newer than AMD Adrenaline 23.5.1. I've tried the Firestorm Viewer and the Second Life Viewer and have gotten the same result. It's as if I pulled the power cord on my PC and plugged it back it. So far the longest I've been able to stay on SL (via the Firestorm viewer) is 30 minutes to 2 hours before my computer reboots again.

I run a Ryzen 5 5600X with a Radeon RX 6800. Event viewer shows me a Critical Level error by Kernel Power with Event ID 41.

So far I updated and reinstalled windows 11, tried a hard driver re-install with DDU, but I still experience the same issue. I contacted Microsoft support and they suggested going to AMD for help. I opened a ticket with tech support, but I wanted to find out if anyone had any suggestions.

I'm sorry to hear that you're experiencing this issue with your PC and Second Life. It sounds like there may be a conflict between your new AMD drivers and Second Life.

Here are a few things you can try:

  1. Roll back your AMD drivers to a previous version.
  2. You can do this by downloading the old drivers from AMD's website and installing them manually.
  3. Try using a different third-party viewer for Second Life, such as Kokua Viewer or Firestorm Viewer.
  4. These viewers often have better compatibility with AMD drivers than the official Second Life viewer.
  5. Disable any overclocking or undervolting that you may be using on your CPU or GPU.
  6. Overclocking and undervolting can sometimes cause instability, especially when combined with new drivers.
  7. Update your BIOS to the latest version.
  8. This can sometimes fix compatibility issues with new hardware and drivers.

If you're still having problems after trying all of the above, you can try contacting AMD support for further assistance.

Here are some additional tips that may help:

  • Make sure that your graphics card is properly seated in the PCIe slot.
  • Try using a different PCIe slot, if available.
  • Check your graphics card for any signs of physical damage.
  • Try running Second Life in windowed mode instead of full-screen mode.
  • Lower the graphics settings in Second Life.
  • Try running Second Life in compatibility mode for Windows 10 or Windows 8.

I hope this helps!
