I'm trying to use Windows 10 with a Dell U3219Q monitor. I have 2 x Apple Macs (an old Mac Mini and a new Mac Pro) both of which I dual-boot into Windows. My intention is to migrate over to the new Mac Pro - but the Mac Pro (which uses an AMD FirePro D300) will only let me have a measly 30Hz refresh rate.
The Mac Mini (which uses NVidia graphics) also had this problem initially - but NVidia's Control Panel allows you to customize your display resolution & refresh rate etc (so you can experiment with different settings if the OS doesn't offer them automatically).
Does AMD's Control Center offer anything similar? I haven't been able to find anything.... :-(
Is there a way I could ask AMD directly about this? (or is there just nothing similar available?)
Maybe fsadough has some input ?
You can try it in Windows under advanced adapter settings
Thanks fsadough but I must be looking in the wrong place... :-(
If I open my AMD Control Center it gives me an option called Advanced Display Settings (rather that Adapter Settings). But if I click on that option it only lists 2 x actions:-
1) Detect whenever AMD FirePro Control Center is opened
2) Use manual detection only (I must click the Detect Displays button)
I'm guessing that's not the right place?
Windows display settings,
And maybe look in 'List all modes',
Ok thanks, I'd already tried that...
What the NVidia app does is to allow you to create custom settings (i.e. you can specify entries which haven't appeared under 'List All Modes' for some reason). You can experiment with the extra settings to find out if they'll work.
For example when I first bought the new monitor, 'List All Modes' was showing me a maximum setting of 1920x1080 at just 30Hz (for the NVidia card). But after a bit of experimentation I was able to increase that to 2560x1440 at 60Hz.
I was just hoping there'd be something similar available for the AMD FirePro.
Yes, but not on EOL'ed products like FirePro D300. We offer custom resolution and also EDID Emulation with our latest drivers on supported FirePro W-Series and Radeon Pro WX-Series
Thanks again fsadough. One more question if you don't mind....
NVidia's Control Panel allows you to 'reserve' a GPU for OpenGL use (assuming you've more than one GPU). Does AMD's Control Center offer anything similar? I've looked through the Control Center options for my 2 x FirePro D300's but I couldn't see anything similar.
In case anyone else encounters this.... I found a link for emailing AMD Tech Support. They replied very promptly and sent me a more recent driver to try. Strangely enough it was a driver for their AMD Radeon range (so I'm wondering if "FirePro" is maybe just Apple's brand name for Radeon??). Whatever... it seems to have worked and I'm finally able to launch Win10 (on my Mac Pro) in full 4K resolution at 64Hz !!
10/10 for AMD Tech Support !!!
