Losing HDMI/display signal before Ubuntu user login, after amdgpu 18.40/18.30 driver installation

Hi,

with newer amdgpu and amdgpu-pro drivers, a fresh Ubuntu 18.04 LTS installation goes to black screen, then loses display signal, before user login.

This can be resolved by going to recovery mode and amdgpu-uninstall the driver.

Tested driver versions

amdgpu-pro affected?

18.30yesyes

18.20 does not show this problem.

Any information on upcoming fixes or tweaks welcome.

No one seeing this issue?

No patches in sight?

No one having a look into it?

This is neither an old nor a broken system configuration.
