Hi all. I am trying to get Ubuntu 21.10 up and running on my 2019 Mac Pro 7,1. I created a drive (UEFI, not a partition) in my 2012 Mac Pro 5,1 (with a Sapphire HD 7950 Mac Edition). This drive boots my 5,1 with no problem, but does not light up the monitor in the 7,1. Back in the 7,1 still no joy.  Tho I'm not sure, I think I need a proper driver for the W5700X MPX.

Can anyone help?

At AMD Download page for Professional GPU Card there is Linux driver for the W5700 GPU card but not for Ubuntu version 21.xx and for Windows Enterprise: https://www.amd.com/en/support/professional-graphics/radeon-pro/radeon-pro-w5000-series/radeon-pro-w...

I am pretty sure this driver isn't compatible with your OEM Apple made W5700X GPU card since it is made to run on a Windows PC.

It is possible that the 7.1 Mac Pro driver isn't compatible with your W5700X GPU card.

I do know that MacOS has native drivers for AMD GPU cards and those drivers gets updated with each new version of MacOS. but I don't know if those native drivers would work or be accessed if you install a Linux OS on your Mac Pro.

You probably will need to contact Apple Support to see if they have a linux driver for your GPU card.

I am not certain if this is the type of problem that AMD Moderator of Professional GPU cards can answer since you are using a Apple PC but I will tag him and let him decide @fsadough

All AMD MAC products are supported by Apple.

This coming week I will start over with an Ubuntu 20.04 ISO (Linux kernel 5.8). Hopefully this driver will then work. Disappointing, and I'm not sure how we will know when the driver will be upgraded..
