Is there really no hardware decoding on Vega for VP9? Horrible framedropping on 4k-videos on Youtube with Firefox...

The headline says it all...

I thought it was something wrong with FF, but it seems no...

Edge plays them quite nicely, though...

That depends!

If doesn't do fixed function decoding but can offload from cpu called Hybrid decoding. So if the CPU decodes it you can accelerate some of those calls. Nvidia starting with GTX supports fixed decoding and so do Intel CPUs. So if you have a Ryzen CPU and Nvidia GPU your good. If you have Intel CPU and Vega or Polaris your good. If you have Ryzen Plus Vega your, S.O.L. it also does not support Play Ready 3.0.

Well, 4790k and Vega 64.

3D part of the card seems to have some action, when watching 4k videos on YT, decoding not...

Horrible framedrops, for example in Hardware Unboxed 4k videos and strangely in fade in and -out parts of the video. Totally smooth on Edge, though...

Best I can offer is to open a support request with Mozilla and AMD and see if the experts have any idea? If it works on edge it obviously isn't just a hardware issue.
