I've inherited a Dell Inspiron 15 laptop, model 5559, that has both Intel and AMD GPUs. I've wondered how to set this up to make certain that the discrete Radeon card is used for any low-end gaming I may want to try on this laptop but I can't seem to find anything helpful. I've never had a laptop that has built-in and discrete GPUs and I've never used anything other than nvidia GPUs before in my desktops so, while I'm kind of excited to finally get to tinker with an AMD card, I'm a little out of my element here.

I found a five-year-old post that mentioned going to the Configure Switchable Graphic section of the AMD software, but this section does not seem to exist in the latest version available from the Dell website or the even later version downloaded directly from AMD. How do I setup my computer to use the Intel GPU for general computing and the AMD Radeon for gaming? Have they changed the way things work in a configuration such as mine or are things possibly handled automatically by the AMD software now?

First go to intel support, ( https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/detect.html) run the driver updater and install all it finds. Mainly the graphics driver. This must be done before anything else (assuming you have Windows up to date).

Then download and clean install the correct AMD driver...which is > https://www.amd.com/en/support/graphics/amd-radeon-r5-series/amd-radeon-r5-300-series/amd-radeon-r5-...

Reboot

Since you neglected to mention your OS...so I assume Windows 10. In 'Settings' / 'Display' / scroll down to 'Graphics' and browse to the .exe file of the game or app you want to use the high performance graphics.

TIP.......make sure your computer power plan is set to the high performance mode (not 'balanced').
