[Help] Error 43 with Sapphire RX 7900 XTX, GPU not detected at startup.

Hey everyone,

I’m facing a frustrating issue with my Sapphire NITRO+ RX 7900 XTX GAMING OC VAPOR-X 24GB. I’ve had this GPU since February 2024, and since day one, I’ve had problems. After updating my motherboard BIOS and GPU drivers, the issue temporarily goes away but eventually returns. Here's what's happening:

  • Almost every time I boot my PC, the GPU is not detected, and I get an Error 43 in Device Manager.
  • The strange thing is that sometimes, after multiple restarts, the GPU gets recognized, and my system works fine.
  • When the restarts don't work, the only way to fix it is by using DDU to uninstall and reinstall the GPU drivers, or by toggling the GPU on and off in Device Manager until it finally starts working.

Here’s what I’ve tried so far:

  1. Updated motherboard BIOS and all other drivers (including Windows).
  2. Clean installed GPU drivers multiple times using DDU.
  3. Checked for any power issues, reseated the GPU in the PCIe slot.

It sounds like it could be a hardware issue, but I’m not entirely sure if it's just the GPU or if something else might be faulty. Would really appreciate any suggestions or insight!

Specs:

  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D
  • Cooler: DeepCool AK400 Digital
  • GPU: Sapphire NITRO+ RX 7900 XTX GAMING OC VAPOR-X 24GB
  • Motherboard: Gigabyte B650 Gaming X AX
  • RAM: 2x Kingston Fury Beast DDR5 6000 MHz 16GB
  • SSD: Samsung 980 500GB M.2
  • PSU: ASUS TUF Gaming 850W
  • Case: Phanteks Eclipse P400A RGB

Has anyone else run into similar issues with their GPU, or does this sound like a defective unit? Any help or advice would be appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

Error 43 can be caused by a hardware issue with the card, or software/driver corruption. The fact that you can reboot and clear the error, or reinstall the software, points to the latter.

Samsung 980 Pro's had firmware issues, has yours been updated?

I just built a new PC and I am having a similar issue and it has been driving me crazy. I have benchmarked my GPU, CPU, Memory passed tests, temps are good, checked event logs, did a clean install of Windows, updated BIOS, turned off XMP/EXPO, not overclocked anywhere, reseated the GPU and checked all PSU connections.

Randomly my monitor will black screen and PC will reboot. The GPU will show up under devices and audio will play but after the reboot I have no sound and no GPU detected. I then have to use DDU and reinstall drivers for it to work for maybe 30 min if I'm lucky before the next crash.

Hello,

I own the xtx7900 since January 2024 and I have the same problem as you guys. You are not alone, and not the only one.

Funny fact, I don't have (or don't remember having) this problem during summer time, now actually winter I have to reboot my computer multiple times to have the card recognized, rebooting multiple the PC after at least one clean boot with the card recognized and the problem won't no more occur (I know what you thinking here ...) - this remembers me old car that need to warm up before an efficient ride - I hope I am wrong here. I have been doing this since the very beginning each and every times it occured, thinking that it was coming from other components, and never suspected a card of the grade and price being the problem.

Like you've explained the device is shown as unrecognized in device manager. At the end I have tried (everything, many things...) on a fresh install the same problem occurs. Not sure if there are tweaks to be done at the bios level but out of the box with default optimized values this problem should not occur.

Now that I see more people having this issue I can only conclude a defect with this card sadly (sorry to be that rude and direct) I have initially traded my old Nvidia 4070 (which I bought back in the meantime) to get advantage of the 240hz on the Amd; I am now thinking bringing back the xtx 7900 to the vendor, either to have a replacement or try to get voucher (Nvidia 5000 series coming) , unless someone or AMD have an explanation or solution.

Opened to try stuff , anyone?

Thank you.

Thanks for your reply!

I've almost given up. I replaced all the hardware except for the CPU and GPU, but the problem still exists. I think it's a GPU issue, so I can only use it. I hope it will become more serious one day, so that the factory can detect the problem. My warranty is still close to 2 years

The problem may be that the driver crashes and windows will revert to a default driver, that is usually pretty bad and the card is not recognized.

Use DDU and then the solution from this post and also if it solves the problem, like it so that other people may find it.

https://community.amd.com/t5/pc-drivers-software/7900xt-driver-low-idle-voltage-may-cause-instabilit...

The problems started with 24.1.1 driver, when AMD tried to lower the power consumption because the reviewers complained and they caused instability in most 7900xt and 7900xtx cards.

I sent the gpu to manufacturer it was tested faulty. I got a new one for free. Now everything is working.
