CPU Utilization

Greetings,

CPU: AMD ryzen 7 5800x3d

GPU: AMD radeon RX 6800

Driver version: 23.9.1 and 23.9.3

Problem:

I created a post about a week ago about how after I upgraded my drivers the CPU utilization went from 1-5% to 25-80% while gaming in certain games. So, today I tested this out by rolling my drivers back to the 23.9.1 version of the AMD drivers. I loaded Call of duty MW2 and started playing. As expected, my CPU showed it being utilized 1-5% with a 99% GPU utilization. I realized I could analyze my performance through the Xbox game bar as well, so I was analyzing my performance through the AMD performance overlay and the Xbox game bar. Both of the indicators showed my CPU only being utilized at 1% and some cases 5%.

After testing I upgraded my drivers back to the 23.9.3 version. I pulled up the AMD performance overlay and the Xbox game bar. Instantly I noticed a difference, but I loaded Call of duty MW2 the game, and loaded a game of bots. While playing my CPU utilization on the AMD Performance overlay showed 58%% and got as high as 77%%, but on the Xbox game bar performance overlay it showed that my cpu utilization was only 3%.

The pictures below show both indicators, and it reads two different percentages.

Who can I report this problem too within AMD? I know the AMD overlay is incorrect, because the Xbox game bar stayed the same after the driver update, and the AMD performance overlay didn't.  Plus, both are reading similar FPS. I don't expect it to be identical, but a 55-digit difference is a little overkill and has me paranoid. unnamed.jpg

I have noticed in Adrenalin that it is not showing anything since update 23.9.3. Has anyone else come across this?

Ryzen Master not reading correctly either?

Armoury Crate however seems to be reading the CPU correctly...

I downloaded Auto Driver Install and reinstalled and repaired. Seems to be working correctly now.

@6lack_assassin perhaps try DDU and do a safe uninstall and try to reinstall and see if it happens again?

Or have a go at the below..

I had a 6700xt and it showed the same as you. The 3 to 5% usage is actually not correct. %58 to %70 is more accurate. Anyone can correct if I'm wrong but there are two different types of utilization percentages and different software reads it differently. I think the %58 to %70 is the total usage of the CPU and when it was showing %3 to %5 was the percentage of just the game.

When I updated to Windows 11 22h2, AMD overlay started to show incorrect CPU load (1-5%) in all games. Now it is fixed.

If you disable “Global C-state Control” in BIOS, the overlay readings will be the same.

BIOS: "Global C-state Control" - Disabled

Well... i Tested it and can confirm it's broken now. Only when Global C-state Control is disable then CPU Usage will be correct. At the same time if Global C-state Control is disabled - there less performance (max clock will be 4 450 MHz instead of 4550 MHz).
