Having failed to load Win11 by using Win 10 update ( secure boot  syndrome) I have created the Win11 media creation flashdrive, downloaded the  m/b drivers from Asus website, backed up files using File History, backed up Thunderbird profile etc, set the BIOS to UEFI and checked the TPM2.0 is loaded.

I have checked my Microsoft account and have the Win10 license key printed out.

It seems all I have to do is alter the boot priority to usb.

Is there anything I have missed/forgotten to do?

You can try using Rufus Software to bypass the Secure boot and TPM requirements of Win 11 and the requirement of having a Microsoft account. I think that this will fix your issues with installing Win 11.

Thanks for getting back to me.

I have  performed the MBR to GPT  operation on the flash drive I intend using, and the Win 11 media creation tool seemed to download  Win11 quicker than last time.

I have yet to load W11 onto this computer, so watch this space.

I have an old HP Compaq 8000 Elite slimline, which has Win 7 Pro on it.  I upgraded the RAM and it has a 500Gb HD.

Could I use Rufus to load Win10 on the HP? I have a legit Win10 flash drive which came with my Asus/AMD computer. The Win 7pro is also legit, but the free update to W10 expired some time ago.

As you state, the "free" update to Windows 10 has expired.

Even if you had upgraded to 10 previously, a system change (such as motherboard) will likely trigger an unlicensed state, and you can no longer register Windows 10 using a 7/8 key.

Many thanks for your suggestions.  Domestic priorities  have prevented further progress, but I have been advised that the media creation tool will work provided I avoid  using the Win10 key ,and log on to the MIcrosoft site - I believe this will give me a digital key for Windows 11- I shall see!
