My wife and I just got two identical Acer Nitro 5 laptops with AMD Ryzen 7 6800H CPUs and 16GB of DDR5 RAM. These seem to be pretty good computers, but neither can play videos without being choppy. It appears to be what some call "video ghosting" or "monitor ghosting".
Here are some things I've already tried:
-Made sure Windows 11 is up to date.
-Updated to the latest AMD Adrenaline Edition (23.7.2).
-Made sure the laptop is plugged in and all the settings in Power Plan are set to maximum performance (customized these myself).
-Tried different video players like MPC-HC, VLC and even the K-Lite Codec Pack.
-Tried different types of video files (mkv, mp4, avi, mpg, H264, H625); they all are choppy.
-I also tried to play around with the AMD Adrenalin Edition software settings, but nothing is helping.
-I also did the UFO test (testufo.com) to see if my monitor had ghosting issues, but it did not. In fact, the results were far better on my new Acer Nitro than on my old Dell Inspiron.
This just doesn't make sense because these same video files are playing flawlessly on our old 10-year old Dell Inspiron with Windows 10, using VLC or MPC-HC. They're just choppy on these brand new computers which have way better specs.
Is there a setting I'm overlooking?
