Black screens - crashing - solution

Just want to share this somewhere since I've had issues forever with this and until recently thought it was drivers, and everything else. I have had hard crashes where at random the PC crashes, sound locks up, screens go black, and I have to turn off the tower and power back up to restart. I have suspected everything over the years, even upgraded PSU, upgraded GPU, still an issue, but recently found out about a setting in the BIOS called CPPC Preferred Cores. I disabled it, and my computer has been rock solid. The setting has something to do with choosing which cores to use for CPU's that have two CCD's or CCX's I can't remember, and a 5800x3d only has one. I wonder if there's a rare situation where having CPPC PC enabled with CPU's that have only one can cause crashes. I'm usually on the latest BIOS and drivers, I keep up with that pretty well. A couple years ago I think we dealt with disabling MPO, picking specific Radeon drivers that were more stable, disabling hardware acceleration in browsers, some said it was related to having different refresh rate monitors etc. I have pulled my hair out over this for a few years probably, and I think it all comes down to this setting. Super rare occasion I would crash scrolling on facebook or another video site. Most of the time I would crash in Star Citizen. Since setting CPPC PC to disabled I've been solid, and the PC feels more snappy/consistent as well. So I guess I wanted to share and get some feedback, and hopefully help someone else.

You are talking about CPU, or GPU? CPPC is related to CPU.

Black screens, most likely are a GPU problem.

For me, I solved all CPU problems by increasing the Minimum processor state to 20% in Windows Power plan.

For the GPU black screens and driver timeouts with latest driver, a solution that works seems to be using the Amd Metrics Overlay all the time on desktop. This increases the idle voltage to around 600mV.

Yeah I know CPPC is a CPU setting, but I and everyone on the forums and reddit etc always suspected GPU issues, and GPU drivers. The CPU setting change made it go away.
