Hi all,
I'm the author of the Sega Dreamcast emulator redream (https://redream.io).
For years on Linux we were plagued with a driver issue that resulted in artifacts due to an invalid GLSL optimization (see https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/mesa/mesa/-/issues/2253 for more details).
This was thankfully fixed in May of last year, however then in August we started getting bug reports on Windows from users who'd updated their drivers of artifacts that looked suspiciously similar.
I've attached photos of the artifacts on Windows. I unfortunately don't have a frame capture to provide, but if that'd help push to get this investigated I can try and work with someone to provide one.
Same issue using 22.11.2 adrenaline driver RX6600M
It's an AMD issue for sure. I swapped out for my nvidea rtx3090 and problem was resolved. AMD caused so many issues with many older Clancy games such as rainbow 6. It just sucks
@inolen App. Dev.?

Sorry, what does this mean?
Being the software Dev,, it may be better to report the issue in Developers section.
Just a guess, it could be related to the opengl drivers overhaul?
I can confirm the same problem with my RX 6600xt running windows 11 with the latest AMD Adrenalin Drivers.
yeah, i have similar artifacts on my rx 6700 with 22.11.2 in redream
Tested a few hours ago, same problem. Flickering screen with VSYNC activated and artifacts all over the screen like the screenshots posted above. I have a RX6700XT with the latest adrenalin drivers and windows 11.
I tested on my 7900 xtx and I had the same flickering issue with VSYNC and had artifacts on the latest drivers.
Yes, I'm having the same issues shown in the pictures above yeah, i have similar artifacts on my rx 6700 xt with 22.11.2 in Redream.
Was trying to play a game and ran into the same issues. Worst of all, i am terrible with specs and driver language, so i didn't even know what was causing this until i found this thread.
Ran into this problem that did not used to exist.
I have the same issue, had to downgrade to an earlier driver to fix it.
Can you please share which driver fixed this for you? Thanks
Well, **bleep**...
I was all set to buy a 7900XTX until I came across this thread. Thank you, inolen, for saving me a return.
Dreamcast emulation is one of the primary functions of my gaming pc. Given how long it took AMD to fix this issue on Linux, I guess I should err on the side of caution and buy a 4080 instead.
Just chiming in to show that this is a pretty big problem. Same thing happens to me. 7900XTX.
I have the same problem. AMD Ryzen 5 5600 g
Driver 23.2.1 released on 2/10/2023 for 7900XTX still has this issue.
Driver 23.2.1 released on 2/10/2023 for 6800XT still has this issue too. Not fixed.
The issue still persists on my RX 6600XT with the latest driver 23.2.1
Haven't been able to use the emu for quite sometime now, updated to driver 23.2.1 and the issue remains...
RX 6800, 23.2.1 driver, the issue still remains.
Same issue here on an RX 6800 XT. These drivers absolutely cause this weird artifacting.
Adrenalin 23.2.1 still not fixed.
The issue is still there with the newest drivers 23.2.2 on my RX 6600 XT.
Still having this issue with the newest update on my RX 6700 XT with the latest update:
Driver 23.2.2, still has issue with 7900XTX
This regression still persists on Windows 11, driver Adrenalin 23.2.2 (fresh install of windows btw), with an AMD RX 6750 XT and has been since day 1 of me purchasing my AMD card 2 months back. Was flawless on my previous GeForce. Heck, the stuff even runs on Intel integrated sh*t. By the way, I tried the Linux version of the emulator with amdgpu and there, it was flawless. Which is kinda infuriating, because it means that AMD themselves f**ked up their driver on Windows.
Artifacts still occurring. Driver 23.3.1 released 3/5/2023 on 7900XTX, and most likely on all of the other cards. Please sound off for other cards that are impacted by this.
Driver 23.3.1 released on 3/5/2023 for 6800XT still has this issue too. Not fixed.
I am using a 6600xt graphics card and I also have artifacts in the emulator
Regression still persists in driver 23.3.1, RX 6750 XT, Windows 11. Meanwhile, the emulator (latest build) works PERFECTLY with amdgpu driver (Manjaro, latest stable kernel) on Linux.
Just chiming in that I have exactly the same problem with 680m amd graphics. Not fixed as of 23.3.1
Issue is still occuring and not fixed AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT with latest update 23.3.1 see below:
So, does the OP not post the progress on their website?
He has been in contact with AMD Devs.
What progress? The issue persists...
https://community.amd.com/t5/opengl-vulkan/artifacts-in-redream-emulator-regression-in-windows-gl-dr... Looks like Inolen did in fact have a ticket opened and the GL Driver team at AMD fixed this interally. As of 3 weeks ago the person who advised from AMD this was fixed said, "the fix is likely to get promoted to the public driver soon." That was around March 7, 2023.
Are there any updates to the fix for this?
