I have installed the new Sapphire Nitro AMD Radeon RX 6800 graphics card in a Razer Core X external GPU connected to my 2017 iMac (Intel chip), whose operating system is up to date: MacOS 11.0.1 Big Sur. The system detects the eGPU but cannot operate with the graphics card. I need to know if AMD has already prepared the necessary drivers for it to work on Mac computers. What should I do? How can you help me?
Thank you very much.
I'm having the EXACT same issue on the same card (well the 6800xt) and the same model iMac
Such a pain in the ass
You both need to contact Apple Support to see what MacOS version supports the new 6800xt GPU cards.
Most likely Apple hasn't yet upgraded latest MacOS to support the RX6800XT or RX6000 series GPUs.
Here is Apple eGPU Support link: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT208544
Note: AMD doesn't supply AMD Drivers for MacOS. The AMD Drivers are built into the MacOS as native drivers. AMD does provide AMD Drivers for BOOTCAMP OS in Mac computers.
EDIT: According to Razor X website it doesn't support the RX6000 series GPUs: https://www.razer.com/gaming-egpus/Razer-Core-X/RC21-01310100-R3U1
Most likely the Razor X PSU is not sufficiently powerful for the new RX6000 series GPUs.
I have good news guys,
As you can read in Apple's release notes for Big Sur 11.4, we'll get support for AMD 6000 series (Big Navy)
https://developer.apple.com/documentation/macos-release-notes/macos-big-sur-11_4-beta-release-notes
So, probably in a couple months this problem will be gone. I got a RX 6700XT and I'm waiting in the same situation.
Do any of you know if on 11.3 at least we get our external monitor being working (even if it's without hardware acceleration?
Cheers,
Fran
