AMD Anti Lag increased Frametime by 3-7ms

Hello folks.

While i was playing around with AMD Adrenaline and MSI Afterburner to reduce Watt Usage of my RX 7900 XTX to it's maximum for my need of performance, i also played around with the Adrenaline Gaming Features.

In Starfield if I have no ANTI Lag enabled, the frametime delivery rate is between 3.8 and 4.5ms. As soon as I enable the ANTI Lag feature, the Frametime delivery rate averages around 5.5-6ms, and spikes up to 10.9ms.

The same also applies to: Cyberpunk 2077, GTA V, Pathologic 2, ARK, Assassin Creed Mirage, Anno1800, Need for Speed Heat

Any reason why?

System:

i7 13700kf, ASRock Phantom Gaming OC 7900 XTX, MSI MPG A 850G, Windows 11, AMD Adrenaline 24.4.1

PS: I can now play Starfield at 1440p@144fps max settings, with a Powerdraw of around 200-230W, amazing!

It's likely due to the way AMD's Anti-Lag feature works. While it can reduce input lag, it might slightly increase frametimes due to how it processes frames try amazing games then.

In not a single Game I played Anti Lag helped

As @kaser23 states and as I understand it, the Anti-Lag feature is not designed to reduce frametime, it is to improve click-to-response times.

If you have a fast CPU, and are playing a graphically demanding game, the CPU-busy may be much less than GPU-busy which creates an imbalance in frametime performance. In these cases it may be beneficial to effectively introduce a delay to CPU frame processing to synchronize it with GPU processing so that the CPU is not needlessly processing frames or causing buffer overruns, and input response frames are processed through the pipe sooner rather than wasting resources on buffered frames with no input.

Here's some Gamers Nexus videos on latency and GPU busy.
