Issue:
After a reboot, I noticed that basic system functions became unresponsive. For example:
- Opening applications: When I try to launch any app, it either doesn't open or takes an unusually long time.
- Command line access: Even trying to access the command prompt fails, or it freezes when I attempt to run commands.
At this point, the system becomes nearly unusable, and I am forced to troubleshoot.
Troubleshooting Steps:
Boot into Safe Mode:
- Since the system isn't responsive in normal mode, I boot into Safe Mode. In Safe Mode, the system works without issues, likely because minimal drivers and software are loaded.
Uninstall AMD Software + Drivers:
- While in Safe Mode, I uninstall the AMD Adrenalin software along with the associated graphics drivers.
Reboot into Normal Mode:
- After clearing out the AMD software and drivers, I reboot the system back into normal mode. Once I do this, the system becomes functional again and everything works smoothly—until I need to restart the machine again...
Additional Troubleshooting with Older Versions:
After facing this issue with the latest Adrenalin software, I decided to try an older version of the AMD drivers, hoping it would resolve the problem. However, this introduced a new issue:
- The older version of the software doesn't recognize or use my dedicated graphics card. Instead, it defaults to using integrated graphics, which leads to poor performance in graphics-intensive tasks. It seems like the software is completely ignoring my dedicated GPU, making this workaround ineffective.
TL;DR: After updating to the latest Adrenalin software, I can't use basic functions like opening apps after a restart. I have to enter safe mode, uninstall AMD software/drivers, and reboot. Tried using an older version, but it only recognizes the integrated graphics, ignoring the dedicated one.
