During install of the PCI driver from AMD, PowerColor, current and prior version the video card fans turn off, the monitor no longer detects an input and the only way to recover is to restore Windows via recovery to a time before the driver was installed.

Additionally, the graphics card seems sensitive to some BIOS settings as well which can cause display to not be detected even during POST or for BIOS.

Hugely disappointing and even more so to see tons of threads going months back with similar issues. This is not a usable product at the moment and it is a big let down having spent so much energy in obtaining stock.

Using a Geforce 660 as a backup just fine.

Any help or guidance is greatly appreciated.

• Windows 10 64bit 19042.685 build
• Display driver: default Windows driver, 1024x768 8bit color 64Hz
• BenQ EX2780Q-T ( tried both HDMI, USB-C )
• Ryzen 5900X
• Gigabyte b550i Auros pro (bios F11n)
• Silverstone SX700PT (700 W)

Progress

I am now able to *successfully install the Radeon 20.11.2 software and drivers! :robothappy: :clap:

Steps

1. From a brand new installation of Windows 10 restore point
2. Downloaded the "Adrenalin 2020 Edition 20.11.2"
3. Attempted the installation, the screen goes black during installation
4. Wait ~10 minutes
5. Click "space" and the computer restarts but the screen still goes immediately black after POST
6. From here, get to safe mode
   • Use another graphics card
   • Use a Windows recovery boot USB/CD
   • Use the power cycle method
7. In safe mode (with networking), delete the AMD 6800 XT driver (without deleting the software)
8. Read through the system event logs to find the point of failure
   • knowing the time of failure is helpful
   • there should be some obvious chunks of warnings and/or errors which are preceded by events involving AMD related things
   • read up on the various warnings and errors. The descriptions suggest how to fix them and there are generally other folks whom have posted instructions online for it anyway.
9. One of the warnings (the first one to occur after successful AMD related events) was in regards to the "Immersive Shell" not having "Local Activation" permissions for a COM Server application
10. The instructions are not perfect (some of the settings are hard to find) but I was able to grant appropriate permissions as described here: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows8_1-performance/error-event-id-10016-distri...
11. Shutdown the computer
12. Put the 6800 XT back in (if you had swapped it out)
13. The computer should reboot, the driver should be listed as installed, and the AMD software suite should be running
14. Run OCCT or other tool to verify no issues arise.

The machine-default permission settings do not grant Local Activation permission for the COM Server application with CLSID

 to the user DESKTOP-XXXXXX\username SID (S-1-5-21-3343893502-1687338766-2735079192-1001) from address LocalHost (Using LRPC) running in the application container Microsoft.Windows.ShellExperienceHost_10.0.19041.610_neutral_neutral_cw5n1h2txyewy SID (S-1-15-2-155514346-2573954481-755741238-1654018636-1233331829-3075935687-2861478708). This security permission can be modified using the Component Services administrative tool.

But....

• I still have several other warnings listed of similar permission nature that may still cause me grief, time will tell.
• Additionally, Device Manager is listing 2 unknown AMD PCI devices that I will have to investigate
