So I built a PC for my brother in law out of some parts I had lying around and he is having a blast.
He wanted to start gaming and I had a few parts left after upgrading my old setup and my brother donated his old GPU.
Ryzen 5 2600X
MSI B350I Pro AC - Big thanks to @Amber_AMD
2x8GB TForce Vulcan Z DDR4 3200Mhz
ASUS Dual series GeForce® GTX 1060 OC edition 6GB GDDR5
WDBlack SN750 1TB PCIe 3.0 NVMe SSD
Corsair RM750e Fully Modular 700w 80+ Gold PSU
Fractal Torrent Nano
I feel like it is a pretty balanced build. He may be locked to PCIe 3.0 but from what the motherboard product page says that board can support up to 64GB of DDR4 and up to the Ryzen 5000 series.
I forgot how cool that CPU can run on just a stock cooler. I ran OCCT and it stayed at 75C for 30 minutes.
Pardon the blurry photos. They didn't look this bad until I had hooked it all up at his place, and went home to look at them on my PC.
@cpurpe91 - You're always making people close to you a PC! They're so lucky to have you 🙂
What will he be using the PC for? I think this is a great PC to start with and he can always upgrade little things himself later!
Thanks for sharing this 🙂
He'll be gaming on it mostly, but it is a pretty capable machine for some office work if he ever needs it. He probably won't be using it for work unless he moves to a completely different career. He's a metalworker.
Right now he's having a lot of fun with Borderlands 3, and he is slowly getting used to mouse and keyboard controls. I told him he could plug in his PS4 controller but he's stubborn.
nice build! i also recently made a build for a friend out of used parts i had on hand, and we ordered a gpu on ebay. unfortunately, it was an intel/nvidia system though 😛
If it gets the job done that is all that matters.
Nice setup! I'm looking forward to helping my nephew build his first rig. He's still saving up some money. Uncle Axxemann will most likely help with some spare parts, too. I have a few additional upgrades to my rig planned now.
I just built a rig for my cousin with the 5600X and I hear no complaints. I still need to give him the box with all the accessories that came with the parts I just haven't had time.
Very nice. I bet he could add a few RGB lights to that build if it likes lighting effects. IKEA makes a nice set of four LED strips with a controller that can be placed along the inside of the window side. It plugs into the wall, so it has no power draw on the PSU. Here is a picture of them which I mounted underneath my 'Laptron' build several years ago.
Those are sick. The motherboard lacked a header to fit the RGB from the power supply nook so he's got what I call a stealth build. XD. RGB make PC go fast.
I love the fractal case. That's a solid build for parts you just had laying around. I had the 2600 as well and gave that to a cousin of mine with a 1060 in '20 when I built my current build. Cool stuff my mans!
The thermals were great. The only part I disliked about the case is the way I had to route the 8pin for the CPU. In the Nano there is no cutout for it. I had to route it across the motherboard from the right. Otherwise the case is great.
Oh, hey @cpurpe91! It's me, your... long lost second cousin twice removed... I sure would love a new build.
I'll get right on that. LOL XD
Realistically if I could build a PC for everyone I would.
