I had a buddy pick up this Asus GT501 Demonslayer case at Microcenter for me today. https://www.newegg.com/yellow-asus-gt501-tuf-gaming-case-yel-handle-atx-mid-tower/p/N82E16811173047?...
My 'big' rig with a Ryzen 5800X and Sapphire Toxic LE 6900XT uses the plain black version. I thought this yellow one was kinda neat. On a whim, I searched to see if Asus makes a matching graphics card, and they do. It's an RTX 3060 .............................
Long story short, how much grief are you guys gonna give me if I put an nVidia card into a massive Threadripper system? 😎
😂thats 2 funny
make a picture of this yellow card, hang it on the wall and use 6900xt instead 😄 😄 😄
Seriously, we can't be friends anymore.
ASUS is amazing at building niche thematic computers, I'll give them that.
Gundam, Evagelion, Demon Slayer and many more including their own characters like Se7en, OMNI, etc..
Having said that. I won't blame you for going down this route. 😉
Now that I'm after used threadripper, I even saw people selling a configuration like that, pairing a 3060 with a threadripper. Its a bit unbalanced for me but that will depend on what people do.
That Gundam stuff was awesome
I'm still up in the air. It's overpriced for an RTX 3060. However, it seems like nobody is making Radeon cards that are 'unique'. I could disassemble a card and paint the shroud to match I suppose. Still deciding. I need to check if the side panel is the same as on my black GT501. I have a Sapphire 6900XT Limited Edition vertically mounted and the tempered glass is a bit too dark to see it well.
DIY and paint that thang. While I'm no Nvidia hater, giving them absurd monies for a 3060 would make me 'sigh', lol. I do like that yellow Asus case! Looks cool.
You would definnitely need a heat resistant paint my friend.
Finding matching components or at least similar enough visually that they'll all blend well together can be difficult unless you're going a with a monochromatic build. I see nothing wrong with using an NVidia card myself. You use what works.
I have an idea for you. Make a custom back plate for your card with the Demon Slayer theme.
There are plenty of guys out there with skill and machinery for that.
Since I'm using a 2990WX, which isn't necessarily a tremendous gaming CPU, I'm thinking of just re-using a Radeon 5600XT I have here. I'm currently looking around for a waterblock for it, but not having much luck. I already have the card completely torn apart. Worst case scenario is I just end up painting the GPU shroud to somewhat match the case. I don't think I can bring myself to buy the RTX 3060. The system is mainly going to be used by my son to do audio/video renderings for school. He's attending the Berklee College of Music online.
That card would look great, I see where you are going with it.
You could make your own cover for a AMD card also. Maybe 3d print a cover, something like that. Then it will take away the dark side emotions you feel every time you look at it or play on the 3060. 😀
I'd rather see an airbrushed or custom printed cover for an AMD card in a rig over an Nvidia. I'd also rather see an Intel card in a rig over an Nvidia.
You'll be removed from my will.
I'm Red all the way @red5 (note the two "red" in one sentence)...
Hi SAM
maybe you should consider this topic as request to your AIBs ? Hmm RDNA4
8900xtx!!!-SAMURAI EDITION!!!-
I will buy it, you have my word
I must say, graphics cards are incredibly boring looking. "back in the day" we got incredible artwork on boxes, custom variants of coolers, etc. Now the prices have gone through the roof and all we get are plain looking cards for the most part. What's sad is there were some fancy looking cards back in the day when nobody even had side panel windows. Now everyone has windowed cases and the cards are generic looking for the most part. Weird.
Back in the day, the video cards I bought were rather boring, except when you talk about heat pipes (something I learned about when working with satellites in the 1980's). But today, there is all sorts of RGB lighting on them. I think things have been getting better in terms of RGB lighting.
Yes, RGB lighting is a newer perk on GPUs. I think the AIBs got lazy with their heatsink and shroud designs because they could just throw tons of RGB on a card and it would sell. Also, I realize that most people are buying online, so fancy box art is less of a necessity compared to 20 years ago. I guess I should be glad that at least a company like Asus is still offering some unique PC parts. In addition to the case and gpu, there is also a Demonslayer motherboard (Intel) and I think possibly a AIO cooler.
Hi, @kratochvil1989 nice to e-meet you! I like your idea!
I have periodic meetings with some of our partners. I will ask them. We'll see.
Yeah, I'm not gonna do it. It's terrible bang for the buck anyway. It looks like I'm going to use the OEM shroud, but probably add custom RGB fans. I might also ask my son's friend about airbrushing the shroud. He paints miniatures, so this should be a piece a cake. I think.
Thats actualy good idea if you care for look , this sounds briliant.

Hi @red5,
You could always buy a water cooled GPU with a transparent water block and use yellow colored coolant, or just set the RGB light to yellow on the GPU, if available.
Or simply buy a dull Nvidia card. (now I have to wash my hands, after writing that) 🤣
I'm actually going to just stick with this 5600XT I already have. I've ordered some various thermal pads to re-do VRAM and VRM cooling, and I'm going to experiment with some paint on either the shroud or backplate. Not sure if I'll mount it horizontal or vertical. I'm leaning towards traditional horizontal since a vertical configuration would put the fans really close to the glass side panel and hinder cooling.

Yeah, that works too. And much cheaper! 😉

My motherboard is lying horizontal in the case so I don't have any choice but mounting everything on it horizontal. But since gravity sucks I'm happy with that. 😂
Mercy, you guys are hostile! 😂😂😂
Love that case though. I guess that Nvidia card would be like putting a John Deere part on a a Case IH.
Sheesh! @red5, you almost became "ded5"... 😂
be bald go blue xD
Is that supposed to be BE BOLD?
@pawelpatrynowicz wrote:be bald go blue xD
I am, but I'll never go blue! 🤣
@Vynski wrote:Is that supposed to be BE BOLD?
Maybe he's talking about us oldtimers going senile and choose Intel. It'll never happen I'll go that senile! 😂
I just came back from a mini-vacation, and happy to see you're sticking with red! Red5! 😉
