What's good! Had a quick question for the smart folk out there about cooler compatibility. Wanted to know if the Wraith Prism AM4 cooler is backwards compatible with the AM3+ socket. My father's CPU fan died in my very first build that housed an FX processor. 6300 I do believe. Time escapes me. But I believe I saw some coolers are backwards compatible and some aren't. Wanted to double check before I look for a second hand AM3 cooler as I do have a spare Prism lying around.

I tried the PRISM on the Phenom and it fitted but I don't want to mislead you on this....

Let me try again during this week.

The take is: as long as they have the clip and you use the original retention brackets, it works.

The Spire and stealth won't work has it uses another mounting system with screws.

ALSO, after a bit of search I found this guy on TOM's Hardware.

I tried to run my 5600's included cooler on my 8120. The footprint for the mounting screws is NOT a match. Lucky for me, I had the cooler that lived on my Phenom II.

If your cooler doesn't fit, I'm certain you can get an inexpensive air cooler for under $25USD. After all, I see guys up here trying to flog their Wraiths for $10-30CAD around here on Kijiji.

The 5600 is probably the spire or stealth, those wont work. This only applies to wraith Max and prism
