Dear all,
I just purchased an unused 5700XT Anniversary Edition to replace the launch one I had sold many moons ago.
This card was overheating, and, given its age, I thought I'd open it up and see what gives. I think this was engineering sample or something similar, since it has no S/N, and it used some sort of graphite? pad instead of paste.
I have opened up probably around 10 5700xt anniversary edition cards, and have successfully reapplied paste and made them quieter and cooler.
This particular card, however, must be part of the "improper cold plate contact" batch, since it was burning up even with MX-6 properly applied.
Of course, I tried the Gamers Nexus "washer mod" afterwards, which was supposed to give the bracket a bit more leverage in closing the gap between the cold plate and the die.
Upon tightening the screws, the tiny washers caused the screw holes in the cooler assembly to strip, and now I have two defective inner diameters which the screws no longer adhere to.
What could I do? Where could i purchase a replacement cooling assembly altogether? (I don't care about the fan or the thermal pads, I can provide those myself).
Thank you in advance!
