RDNA 4 Emerges! AMD Unveils Red-Hot Radeon RX 9000 GPUs With Big AI Focus

At CES 2025, AMD has taken the wraps off its next-gen graphics cards, the Radeon RX 9000 series, replete with a revamped performance architecture.

Yes, I want one of these!Yes, I want one of these!

AMD’s highly anticipated RDNA 4 graphics cards will launch soon, headed by Radeon RX 9070 and Radeon RX 9070 XT GPUs, the company announced at CES 2025. The new RDNA 4 graphics architecture has several improvements, according to the chip maker, including faster graphics performance, more powerful AI processing, and AMD’s third-generation ray-tracing accelerators. It isn’t yet clear how these GPUs will stack up against Nvidia's inevitable GeForce RTX competition when these new Radeons drop during AMD's vague timeline of "Q1 2025," but you can be sure the next few months will be exciting as we discover more about them, and what they're up against.

If you’re familiar with AMD’s existing graphics cards, the first thing you likely noticed is that the number scheme here is slightly different. You may even think I've typed it wrong. This is because AMD has traditionally used the hundreds digit to differentiate its graphics cards, like the AMD Radeon RX 7900 XT versus the AMD Radeon RX 7800 XT. That stops here, however, and for the time being, AMD will instead use the tens digits for this purpose, similar to what Nvidia does.

Did you notice the 'Big Al' focus in the title?  Somebody likes me up there.

I wonder if nvidia trademarked/copyrighted 5070/5080/... all the way up to 8xxx, but never got to 9000s.

Don't know, but it's interesting in the realignment of the numbering sequences.

NVIDIA in 2030: We are proud to present the amazing 9070!

User: Bro, I already have it since 2025. Old tech now....

It just hit me that I think intel stopped with the numbers only (...,80387, 80487) due to copyright/trademark issues and changed to names like pentium.

I do think it is a bit silly they went with the name change, however I do feel like it will be a bit easier for those switching from Nvidia to find the right tier card they are looking for. Like @johnnyenglish pointed out, it will be wild to see if Nvidia releases a 90X0 series in the future.

Well... First 3Dmark leaks got online.

Looks like it beats both 7900XT (by some margin) and 4080 super (barely)

Am I the one wishing for a "Ace Up Your Sleeve" move?

They could definitely make a smashing hit like the 6950XT but the question is:

Does it prints money for the company? Maybe not...

Anyone know what the 1 2-fan card is?

Probably the 9060

AMD should like, work with us to bring FSR 4 and their Neural Supersampling and Denoising for Real-time Path Tracing to Portal 2 with RTX, lol
I definitely think it would make a great showcase of RDNA 4

How exactly would they work with us on that idea?  Asking for a friend...

As Albert Einstein said, "I could have done so much more with a Big Al's Computer!".

Well, as you know Portal with RTX launched in 2022 and was a disaster in terms of compatibility with other GPUs which led to lots of negative feedback, we're wanting to prevent that same situation.

I'll first state NVIDIA has no involvement with development, they may promote the remaster since it is based off their technology but other than that this is a community remaster like Half-Life 2 RTX.

Another thing is we're not using their branch of Remix, Portal 2 is very shader reliant so it needed some reverse engineering which was done by Xoxor who is working with us as well for things like feature improvements and getting everything ready for release, so we can make changes for things like FSR to our branch and we have an internal one we can give access to AMD.

The reason we ask for AMD's help is because our team is mostly comprised of 3D artists since Portal 2 is an already finished game and Xoxor is busy with optimizations and isn't experienced with AMD technologies like FSR, I'm also hoping with AMD's involvement they can implement technologies like FSR 4 and Neural Supersampling and Denoising ahead of time as these technologies aren't out yet

How does this benefit AMD? It showcases their technology in a remaster for a widely loved classic game, we would also promote RDNA 4 and FSR 4 in our personal trailers which would sell their GPUs and show that they can offer a RT experience comparable to NVIDIA.

Essentially we're offering AMD to be a part of this remaster and provide their users with the features needed to enjoy it to it's full extent and show that Remix is for all.

Disappointed AMD didn't officially unveil the 9000 series at CES, but I'm still excited to see what they'll be offering and if what Mr. Jack said wasn't only "Coach speak". Really hoping they bring amazing performance and pricing to the mainstream and budget-ish segment. Very curious to see the RX 9070 XT and 9070 in action.
