You heard that right: MSI overclocks AMD's new Ryzen 7 9800X3D to an incredible 7.24GHz on its new MEG X870E GODLIKE motherboard.
AMD's new Ryzen 7 9800X3D is now in the wild with its 8 cores and 16 threads of Zen 5 processing power + new 3D V-Cache, with the CPU recently used by ASUS and pushed to 6.9GHz seeing 1000FPS+ in Counter-Strike 2 and 2000FPS+ in Valorant... all the while, sipping just 100W of power.
MSI has taken it to another level, using its new MEG X870E GODLIKE motherboard, LN2 cooling, and an incredible 7.241GHz overclock on the 9800X3D chip.
In his review of the Ryzen 7 9800X3D, Chris Szewczyk said: "The AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D is a gaming powerhouse with none of the weaknesses of prior X3D chips. It delivers the excellent gaming performance we've come to expect, but its high clock speeds mean it doesn't give up performance in non-gaming applications".
His last words: "In conclusion, the Ryzen 7 9800X3D is in a class of its own when it comes to gaming. However, it's important to remember that its benefits will only apply to those using high-end graphics cards or if you're looking to push hundreds of FPS in competitive shooters. Beyond gaming, it's a strong all-rounder, too. That couldn't be said of prior X3D chips, which gave up too much performance outside gaming".

Ln2, not really daily driver stuff.. though amazing OC, though would have liked scores/bench results from MSI .. like ASUS @6,9GHz CS2 at 1k+ FPS and valorant ar 2k+ .. insane FPS which sets bottleneck at USB poling-rates for mouse and keyboard input..
Any word on powerdraw (and also Vsoc & Vcore)? I have seen something about the cs2:go 1k+FPS with 100W powerdraw for the CPU.. that seems quite efficient, so Vc & Vsoc cant be much higher. That in turn means the thermal-base won't go up much and with LN2 it should be cold enough to keep cores and cooler a good bit below up too just above ambient temp.. so when hit with a short load, the CPU is first heat-soaking itself, IHS, and cooler, ..
Do disabled cores impact vCache size? Or is it direct- or interconnected would be the actual question.. can you do 1010 & 0101 (4c per row,2 rows) .. so 4c with SMT spread out ..

Good questions. I don't do this overclocking sort of thing. I just keep building AMD gaming computers and enjoying the experience of their first boots. It's like bringing new life into the world, one CPU at a time.
Thanks, there are some more options to limit thermals and maybe latency reductions.. though losing cores, SMT softens that reduction a bit.. still 8T
How far could it be pushed on IF, Cores, etc.. some workloads would benefit 🙂
Lets just say: i just wish i could test&review the 9950X3D .. as a 2CCX package, 8C/8T (no SMT) would be possible.. and either CCX would have access to v-cache ..
Lol, i cant afford LN2.. its seeking and pushing to limits, but i enjoy my stuff too much as daily-driver. I (eventually) will unalive stuff, and its not like those HQ motherboards used often for LN2 come cheap. CPU'S like 9800X3D are not things i would call cheap, no matter personal finances,..
Though i just like my PC and all it enables me to do!

I do OC at occasion but my last daily driver oc was on FX8120@4,1GHz with the stock cooling 😄 that part had an amazing undervolt
