Favorite Music Playlists/Genres

Happy Monday Red Team,

It’s ya boi, Wally, back at it with… OK enough of that cheesiness, haha. I hope everyone had a great weekend filled with time for your favorite hobbies, your families, friends, or gaming (or all the above)!

I had all of Saturday to myself (my fiancée works weekends here and there), so you know I spent a lot of time at my PC. I’ve started playing Path of Exile and Starcraft II (custom games to be specific – Tower Defenses) again and remembered how much fun games like those are. In other words, games where you can almost mindlessly grind for hours on end. The kind of game where you just put on some music, sit back in your chair and game.

I usually listen to the same genres or playlists on Spotify when I game – usually a mix of hip hop or a variety of rock (metal/punk/indie/hardcore/etc.) – and am super interested in knowing if you all like to listen to music or a podcast (or watch TV/movies) while you play a game, do some work, etc. too.

If so, what do you find yourself listening to typically?

I still have so many games to look into from all of your recommendations the other week, and I’ll likely follow up on those in the near future, so your music may help keep me going!

Hey Wally,

Sounds like you had an awesome Saturday! Path of Exile and Starcraft II, especially those tower defense custom games, are perfect for getting lost in while the hours fly by. I’m with you on the "grind game and music" vibe—definitely enhances the experience.

When I’m gaming, I usually gravitate towards lo-fi beats or instrumental soundtracks, especially when the game itself doesn’t have intense background music. It helps me stay focused without getting too distracted by lyrics. But if I'm in a more upbeat mood, I mix in some synthwave or classic rock too. For certain games, I actually enjoy listening to podcasts—nothing too heavy, just casual chats or tech discussions.

Curious to know if you switch up your playlists based on the game, or do you stick to your usual hip hop/rock blend no matter what you're playing?

Hey Wally, Glad to hear you had a great weekend of gaming! Path of Exile and Starcraft II sound like a blast. I usually listen to a mix of electronic and synthwave when I game – it really helps me get into the zone. Podcasts are another favorite, especially true crime or tech-related ones, but I save those for when I'm doing work or chores. I’ve been using Spotify Premium lately, and it’s been fantastic for both gaming and productivity. The ability to skip tracks and enjoy ad-free listening makes the whole experience so much smoother. Plus, with its offline mode, I can take my playlists and podcasts with me even when I’m not connected to the internet.

Sounds like you've got an awesome setup for gaming vibes! Lo-fi beats or instrumental soundtracks are perfect choices for staying focused, especially when a game’s background music isn’t too intense. Synthase and classic rock add such a great, upbeat energy too, especially for high-action moments.

I imagine they’re perfect for slower-paced games or grind sessions, giving you something interesting to listen to without demanding too much attention.

As for my Kinemastergeek, I usually stick to my hip hop/rock mix since it keeps the energy up, but I definitely tweak it depending on the game. For something atmospheric or strategic like Path of Exile, I’ll switch to ambient or darker beats. And for faster, high-focus games, I like to go with something more intense to keep up the pace. How about you? Do you find certain music helps you zone in more for different types of games?

Hey Wally and Red Team!

Sounds like you had an awesome weekend! I can totally relate to getting lost in a good game with the perfect playlist in the background. Path of Exile and Starcraft II are classics for zoning out – they’re great choices!

For me, it’s usually some chill electronic playlists or classic rock when I’m gaming. If I’m working or tackling something that needs focus, I’ll switch it up to instrumental jazz or lo-fi. And if I’m winding down, [a good podcast](https://spotich.com/) always does the trick!

Looking forward to hearing everyone’s favorites – maybe I’ll find a few new gems to add to my rotation too!

Path of Exile and Starcraft II are timeless classics, perfect for those marathon gaming sessions!

Having the ideal Spotify playlist is a game-changer when setting the mood. Personally, I gravitate towards electronic or lo-fi beats to stay in the zone, but a solid mix of high-energy rock tracks can really elevate the intensity of gameplay.

While I enjoy tech and gaming podcasts during work, I tend to stick to music while gaming—it helps me stay focused and immersed.

What about you? Do you have a go-to playlist or favorite tracks that keep your energy up while gaming? I would love to hear your recommendations!
