I thought this could be a neat idea, so I'm going to give it a shot.  For my next LAN gaming rig, I will let the community decide what goes into it. It doesn't look like I can do a poll, so I'll just have to keep track of votes within this post.  I'll offer up a few options for each component, and the community (you guys and gals) will decide what I get.

Sound like a plan, or am I crazy?

**EDIT**  -  I'll give 4 choices to base the next build on -

Gaming on a budget - Radeon 5500XT and Ryzen 5500

Mid Level Mayhem - Radeon 6600 and Ryzen 5600

High Octane - Radeon 6800XT and Ryzen 5800X

BFG - Radeon 6900XT liquid cooled and Ryzen 5900X

LOL, Sam, that's a build that's already done.  I bought that Sapphire card about a month ago and I have had the 5800X for about a year.  I have a 6800XT on the way from the special purchase AMD just offered, plus a surprise 6900XT, and I have a 5500XT just sitting around. My daily rig right now is the one with the RX6600.

So I thought I'd offer the community the chance to 'build' my next system via consensus.  They could decide on a high-end rig, or perhaps they'd want to see a lower-end rig with max overclocking?  Perhaps a mid-range build?  I'm open to anything at this point.

Go for the High Octane build! The Radeon 6800 XT + Ryzen 5800X = Awesome Match!

FYI, while selling products at PAX East a couple of months ago, I spoke with numerous AMD customers and Red Team members, and most of them mentioned the pair is the way to go - from both cost and performance perspectives.

Considering it is strictly for gaming, it probably makes the most sense. My 6800XT is out for delivery as we speak.  There is a good chance I end up doing 3 out of 4 of those builds anyway!!  I just thought it would be neat to get community input.

5800X + 6800XT could required more attention to be a nice build but its the go to if I had to.

Unless.. If it means carrying the PC. For that I probably would end up with a 5600X and a 6700XT

CPU perf comparison:

As Single threading is most important for game perf, there is little to no bene going to 5900x, 5600 is best bang/buck

(and would probably only slightly bottleneck the 6800/6900)

I think your Mid-Level Madness is right on the money for a LAN setup. However, instead of the 6600 have you looked at the 6750XT? It might just give that little extra performance over the 6600 if you are concerned about that.

@Key-J  I actually have all the graphics cards listed right now.

So the only thing I have to get is cpu, motherboard, etc.

I have a 6800XT on hand, 2 - 6900XT liquid cooled, a 6600, and a 5500XT.  I was trying to be cute and match the cpus up with the gpu. 5800X-6800XT, 5600-6600, Ryzen 5500-Radeon 5500XT, Ryzen 5900X-Radeon 6900XT.

More than likely a couple of these builds will end up in my 2 extra old Alienware cases.

Just so everyone knows what I'm doing. This is a link to an album of pictures to my old gaming LAN in my basement. I've dismantled it and I'm rebuilding it with newer systems.  I'm just giving the community a chance to offer input on the next build in case some of you had a certain combination of cpu-gpu you'd like to see put together. This isn't a business or anything, it's just a passion project.

This is looking beautiful - funny enough but I am totally digging the neon paint through the brick mortar. 

Are you looking to run this just as a friends/family idea, or would you be looking to host little tournaments and maybe charge like a $5 a pop entry to the public (or something of the like?)

@Key-JI've done this on some level going back more than a decade.  If you looked at the Imgur album, that was the culmination of a couple years of effort.  It was always just for friends and family, and whomever else we could get to come over and game with us.  We had people come from 2 hours away to join us.  I'm re-doing it now because I had mostly dismantled it a couple years ago.  The 'strangers' that have come to game with us generally found us via Facebook group page.  I don't know if I'll necessarily have 10 full time PCs again. That remains to be seen. (most of the time people wanted to bring their rigs over, so my PCs didn't get used as much as I thought they would.)

Might be making a MicroCenter trip today.  I sold my Mustang. I had 3 in less than 3 years while all this craziness with GPU prices was going on.  Now I've got some money freed up to start the gaming charity again LOLOL. I should register as a 503(c) or whatever charities are.

(Still rockin' the Ryzen license plates though. Just transfer it from car to car)

I've had the Ryzen license plate for several years now. Basically since Ryzen was released.  But now instead of being on a Mustang it's on a Ford Focus LOLOL. I'm not sure how exciting that would be to sponsor.

Mid level Mayhem. Most of us try to go bang for the buck and a well tweaked mid level machine that stands up and delivers makes us jump into the me too category. We would all like a Ferrari but my Ford runs pretty good. Just sayin. I will say I wouldn't mind getting my hands on the shiny BFG.

I visited Microcenter on Saturday and got parts for my next 2 systems.  I went with the lower-end builds because those 2 are going to be built in 2 old Alienware cases I have.  I bought a Ryzen 5500 and a B450 board, and a Ryzen 5600 and a B550 board.  My goal now is to have the majority of the 5000 series processors represented on my LAN.  As of now this gives me a 5500, 5600, 5600G, and 5800X.  Graphics cards I currently have are - 5500XT, 6600, 6800XT, 6900XT liquid.

These are the 2 cases. I know they're not some peoples' cup of tea, but it's a bit of nostalgia for me. These don't have see-through side panels, so I can throw these builds together fairly quick.  First, I have to wax and polish the cases to get them looking better than new. I use Meguiar's car products and it works great. cooled, and another 6900XT liquid cooled.

My new Ryzen 5600 I just purchased and lapped.  Notice the 4 corners have been sanded down to bare copper before the rest of the heat spreader was barely touched.  Every Ryzen processor I've had has been the same way.  There are just natural high points due to the nature of the construction.  It's not a terrible thing, but I just choose to lap the processors to ensure better contact with heatsinks/waterblocks.

It's going into a B550 board, but I'm not sure which GPU I'll use yet.

I remember the lapping days of the old processors.  We used to focus on the heatsinks though, rather than the CPU because many of the AMD products didn't have that big lid on them.  I think I did it once and decided it wasn't worth the effort to get a 1 to 2 degree Celsius improvement in thermal interface.
