I was wondering should this work - RX 580 card in a secondary PCIe slot (PCIe 2.0 x16 (x4 mode))? Motherboard is Asus Z97M-Plus, which has two PCIe slots - 3.0/2.0 16x (16x mode) and 2.0 16x (4x mode).
Why I'm asking this - motherboard has PCIe 3.0 slot and there my RX 580 works just fine - but I want to change graphics cards cooler to aftermarket one, and this takes lots of room, and I have sound card in PCI slot.
I did put the card into that PCIe 2.0 slot yesterday, to see what happens, and I started having flickering and moments of black screen. It did not freeze, but it was unusable when game was running.
So, as I have understand, it should work, but with slight performance penalty, but in my case I saw flickering and black screens.
PSU should be enough, 1000 w Chieftec.
Any thoughts appreciated.
