Graphics Cards

So I have one of these in an old Mac. They all stop working at some point, but there aren't replacements available. I am loathe to spend hundreds on getting it reflowed only to find it now working again in a few months.

Are there any other suggestions for replacements for this as the mac is otherwise fine. There is a PC version of the 4850. Can this be externally mounted and used?

Macs use special "Mac Edition" video cards, and those have gotten very rare to nonexistant, even on the used market. Sadly to say your best option is to upgrade to a much faster Apple machine.

So there is no way to use the non mac editions of the cards in the Mac?

Are there another Mac edition cards that could work in place? 

I already had to buy a replacement, but I need a second machine and this would otherwise work fine for what I need.

The problem is the age of the machine. You need to ask in an Apple oriented forum to see if something like an RX 580 Mac Edition would be compatible.
