I got my PC secondhand about three years ago, and getting AMD drivers installed for its R9 390 GPU has been a huge pain in the neck from day one, I initially got a legacy driver to install (after HOURS of trial and error) when I bought the machine but since then, every time I run a driver update, my PC freezes just a few seconds into the process at the hardware detection phase (I think). At some point I got it to update from version 17 to version 19, but I don't recall how; might've been an automatic update, but those don't usually work any better than downloaded driver updates.
I recently tried to install a new SSD but after nearly two weeks of fighting the AMD driver and never getting it to install, I gave up and sent the SSD back. During that process I updated the AMD firmware, but that didn't help.
The PC has an Asus Z97Pro motherboard, 32GB RAM and is running Windows 10 1903.
I really need to upgrade my SSD but not being able to install GPU drivers is holding me back! Is there some systematic troubleshooting method I could try in order to solve this issue?
