AMD 6950XT crash when mounted vertically, ok when horizontally

Hi all,

I'm experiencing hard shutdown when my pc is in vertical position (normal position with the tower 100 case from thermaltake). I've noticed when i put the case on horizontal position, all is good.

In vertical position, the AMD 6950XT goes until 110°C for the hotspot temperature in less than 20s (hard throttle) and 75°C for the GPU temp. Then i can have an hard crash ramdomly (sometimes after 25mn, sometimes 2h).

in horizontal position, the hotspot temperature is not going above 80/85°C (60°C GPU temp). No shutdown.

Is it normal ? I have removed all the sides panel to be sure it's not an airflow issue.

I don't know what to do. I bought the card 6 months ago but for personal reason i didn't used it. So, RMA or i just change my case ?

Thank you all !

Hey
I have an XFX merc 6950 XT. I tried 90 degrees and 180 degrees (with support). And I experienced the same.
But now the hard crashes persist even tho it is in normal position (with support also).
Have you come to a conclusion to what to do?
