I have occasionally checked into the standards to see if anything has changed. The USB SIG looks after the standard and the main change is the new Type-C which can handle up to 100W of power.
I have an Apple 96W charger which eventually will become more useful. At present type-C is still slow to become installed on PC rigs. My X570 is the first motherboard to have rear USB Type-C.
All USB-C cables must be able to carry a minimum of 3 A current (at 20 V, 60 W) but can also carry high-power 5 A current (at 20 V, 100 W). The PC has 12V maximum so the ability to charge a device is somewhat limited.
I have a front panel box with a USB type-C connector beside 3 type A.
My MacBook has a type-C charger port that can also be use for data. Various boxes are available which can breakout into HDMI and more depending on the variants.
