upgrading CPU R5 3600 to ?

I am currently running a R5 3600 due to my Graphics card 5700xt deciding it did not want to work and i use my computer for working and gaming i brought at 6700XT to replace it.

I am using a B550M AORUS PRO-P Mother board, I have read that this combination can cause bottlenecks so looking at upgrading the CPU

i have read that people advise everything from at 5600X to 5800X3d i am wondering if anyone has some real world advise in regards to this I am looking at doing this round middle to end of June

Or would i be better of jumping both feet into an AM5 build max budget $1500 Australia

Thanks in advance

If you want to save a buck the 5800X3D is a win.

AM5 route is better of course, but I'm completely unware of pricing in Australia.

Thanks for that prices here are weird close to double US prices

If price is a big point maybe consider the 5 5600G. It's been running pretty good for me except the last two weeks for some reason but at 125$ ist very nice.

I had a Ryzen 5 5600X paired with a MSI RX6700 XT Gaming X and it was a great combination for gaming. Prices here in the UK have gone stupid as they are £170 and that's in a sale. Have read some good reviews on the Ryzen 7 5800 X 3D but in the UK these are approx. £300.

AM5 of course would be the best route but then you are talking a whole new system build, CPU, RAM, Cooler, power supply probably due to TDP and Motherboard. Your GPU however is compatible with AM5 so at least it would be one less cost.

Check if the memory is on the QVL, browse online forums and watch videos about the board.

Gather as much info as you can. Every feedback is good feedback.

The prices you posted are a bit high too.

Depending on which state you live in, 7600X for 395au

Mobo only a few $ diff.

The PNY ram is not on the gigabyte supported list, check that for brand/models supported.

I upgraded, or I should say downgraded, from a Ryzen 7 2700X to a Ryzen 5 5600 based on feedback from this forum.  The final feedback came when a topic of posting Cinebench scores and when the 5600 significantly outperformed the 2700X it was a no brainer for me.  However, you need to recognize your use.  If you are looking for a top notch gaming rig then I would recommend the 5700G to stay on the current motherboard and RAM.  If your just a casual gamer then the 5600 should serve you well.  I would avoid the extra cost of the 5600X due to the fact that it is just an overclocked 5600 and do the overclocking on your own.  Two things to keep in mind on your upgrade are your CPU cooler and BIOS upgrade.  Do not use the Wraith cooler.

If it ain't broke; don't fix it!

Thanks for the suggestions

Sort of stuck between a Rock and a hard place

My better half suggested that why not future proof myself and get ahead of it now where common sense says get 5700G and save the extra and wait too see what future has planned

As you said I guess things run considerably higher in Australia.

In Kentucky Best Buy I can have these tomorrow:

  1. Ryzen 7 780X3D - $450  (the Ryzen 5 7600X - $250)
  2. Asus TUF X670E Plus WiFi - $330
  3. Corsair Vengance RGB 6000Mhz C36 - $110

Total = $690 less tax.  All I can say is check prices around and see what they have to offer.

If it ain't broke; don't fix it!

Looking at the same parts here

  1. Ryzen 7 780X3D - $749  (the Ryzen 5 7600X - $395)
  2. Asus TUF X670E Plus WiFi - $549
  3. Corsair Vengance RGB 6000Mhz C36 - $310

I do suggest the 5700 or the 5800X3D. The former one if you want 8C and get them cheap, and the latter one if you want the best possible performance for games on AM4.

If you want to go for AM5, I would wait for the refreshed board lines from all vendors.
