stay on 5800x3d or AM5?

Hello guys, I’ve been wondering whether I should maybe sell my AM4 setup and switch to AM5?

My current setup is: R7 5800x3d RTX 3070 Ti B550 Strix F 16GB DDR4 3600MHz

In my country, I’d be able to sell my current specs for around 400€. That is enough to buy a B650 mobo, a 5 7600X and 16GBs of 5200MHz ram aswell.

Should I upgrade? I play on a 240hz 1080p monitor, mostly fps games like CS2, Valorant etc.

Investing in AM5 is kind of pointless if you are going to take a performance hit. Have you looked at the specs performance in the games you play?

Ryzen 7 7700X, MSI MAG X670E Tomahawk Wifi, Corsair DOMINATOR® TITANIUM RGB 2x16GB DDR5 DRAM 6000MT/s CL30, AMD Radeon RX 7900 XT, Corsair HX Series™ HX1000, Corsair MP600 PRO NH 4TB

Switching from your current AM4 setup to an AM5 upgrade could be beneficial if you're seeking improved performance and future-proofing. The R7 5800X3D is already quite strong, especially for your 240Hz 1080p monitor, but the Ryzen 5 7600X on AM5 might offer better gaming performance and efficiency. However, the difference might be modest for your use case, so if you value having the latest tech and better upgrade paths, it’s worth considering. Otherwise, your current setup is still very capable for high FPS gaming.

Hi,

I'll try to be very factual instead of push you into rushed updating.

The AM4 is still interesting, specially with rumours about 5500X3D but at the same time its showing its age. Unless they use it as a testbed and send us a 5950X3D with all 16 cores 3Dvcache to play with, you better start shoving some money in the "update jar".

On the other hand, 7600X won't be the absolute best against your 5800X3D, I wish they had a 7500X3D for AM5 budget gamers, this way maybe they could push people into upgrading platform.

In a nutshell, either you bring absolute certainty with a 7800X3D or just stick with 5800X3D for now.

If you check the 7700X, which is ahead of 7600X, it only has 6% advantage on average, expressive in some games? Sure. But not 100% absolute. Maybe you should browse Youtube and look after the games you play.

Good Luck with your upgrade
