So, I'm considering possibly building my first desktop and was wondering how much space it would take up? Not counting the monitor.

If I did build one it would just be for anything. Not super small or big. I was wondering how much space the main part of the pc takes up, like the motherboard, GPU, cooler, ect. Basically all the part inside the case.

Yeah, that's what I'm talking about. Although this is beside the point, should I future proof my CPU to support ddr5 ram?

Hi,

What is your purpose with the build?
Creative Work, gaming, small gaming rig, media center computer, show off (yes, RGB bling bling for the win)

Do you have space for it?
A office room, living room, bedroom to put the desk

How much space?
A mid tower with a 27inch curve monitor needs at the bare minimum a 140cmx70cm tabletop. At least its what I have. However you may want a spacious desk to show all the glory or shuffle the computer in a living room and use the TV.

After you get these sorted out...
Get what you like the most
: - )

I got kicked from my office to the living room so I had to let go the BIG DESK to a small one, maybe this video can help you get some ideas.

Good Luck

I'll give my example, my case is pretty much on average a mid tower and I feel it very tight.

Obsidian 450D:

210mm (W) x 494mm (H) x 497mm (D)

But, I'll be upgrading to a bigger one, Helios RoG

250mm (W) x 591mm (H) x 565mm (D)

Not sure if its this you meant by space but my best guess is the actual size or dimensions.

It depends on your own preferences I'd say.

Most motherboards for the Ryzen 7000 series are quite expensive. It's up to yourself if you want to spend it

In my case I decided that I wanted an AMD build for myself back in 2021 and I was in no hurry so I bought parts every now and then so I wasn't spending a large sum of money at a time and while I knew that Zen 4 was in development I decided to go for Zen 3.

It depends on what you want I'd say.

In the living room I have a mini ITX (Intel) build  in a Thermaltake Core V1 case. It's dimensions are 276 x 260 x 316 mm. While I love this case the only limitation is the size of the graphics card that it allows.

My wife had an aging laptop which she hardly took anywhere (and when we go anywhere I usually have my laptop along which she can use too) so I decided to build a desktop for her.

It became my first AMD build with a 5600x on a Asus PRIME B550M-A mATX board in a Cooler Master N200 Mini Tower. It's dimensions are 202 x 378 x 445 mm

Due too some weird error (beeping code after I finished the build) I ended up buying a second 5600x to rule out any CPU issues. After some troubleshooting I solved the problem (I'll make a separate thread for this since I'm still curious if there is an answer for what was going on) I had a spare fully working 5600x which I finally used to upgrade the PC that will go into our guestroom when it's finished.

For the guestroom pc I got a Gigabyte B550 Gaming X v2 ATX board that I have build into the case of a previous (4th gen I5 Intel build, so it's really an upgrade). The case is the Cooler Master CM-690 III and it's dimensions are 230 x 507 x 502 mm.

I was originally planning a 5800x build for myself and have most parts already but it's on hold until the guestroom pc can be moved there from our study.

The 5800x build will be put in a Sharkoon TG7M RGB case. It's dimensions are 485 x 220 x 488 mm

In both the Core V1 and CM-690 III case I have used a Cooler Master 120 MM AIO and for the 5800x build I'll be using an Arctic Liquid Freezer II 240

Sorry if it's a lengthy reply. Just wanted to give you a general idea.
