Random Reboots ?! I'm at a loss here :(
Hello,
I have been trying to track down a very pesky random reboot problem. There is no one scenario where it reboots, under load, idle.. does not matter. No specific process, anything.
- The rig has been solid from when it was built, in Dec/2022 until the problem started in Nov/2023
- Memtest did not find anything wrong with the memory.
- No overclock on the cpu, memory or graphics, ever.
- The picture below is received every time I log back into windows - this leads me to believe it's the graphics card or drivers nukin my system...
- the 2nd picture is the BSOD recorded.
- Completely deleted the AMD Adrenalin suite and drivers, I let windows install the default drivers from 10/20/2022 (still random reboots after this!!)
- re-seated the Graphics card (also made sure no dust was in the slot - or - on the card)
My specs:
MEG X570S ACE MAX (latest bios loaded)
Ryzen 9 5950X
64GB G.Skill DDR4 3600
Radeon RX 6950 XT GAMING X TRIO 16G
SSD: Samsung 870 QVO 2TB

Every time there is unexpected windows reboot, GFX Adrenalin driver resets the power profile and issues above warning. Your issue may not be GFX issue, but the PAGE_FAULT may be likely culprit. You should explore in that direction.

- When you deleted the AMD GPU drivers, did you use AMD Cleanup Utility and/or DDU?
- Did the issue start after a particular update (Windows Update, GPU drivers, chipset drivers, hardware, etc)?
- Are you using the latest AMD chipset drivers?
- I see a new BIOS was released for your board on 2024-04-10 (7D50v1A) -- is this the one you have installed?
- Have you tried the DISM and SFC commands to see if Windows system files need repair?

thanks for the insight here:
I did use the AMD cleanup tool.
I don't seem to remember anything in particular
I am using the latest AMD chipset drivers
I did not install the latest BIOS (I will in the next day when I have time)
I did run the DISM and SFC commands before but can't remember what the results were (about 3 months ago). But I just ran it again and found corrupt files. Let's see if that's the issue.
Have not tried a clean Windows install. This is my last resort.

The Warning from adrenalin is pretty standard, doesn't mean at all its the graphics card fault.
The error itself seems to be coming from the paging file, you could have it corrupted or any other system file. Could be a bad sector. I would start checking the OS first. Try SFC or DISM.
Since you report reboots from any workload, try checking if it reboots on safe mode.
ALSO: If you have a small SSD laying around try installing Windows on it and give it a try.
Good Luck

I had the same problem with my 6700XT with 2023 versions where the driver would cause a random restart even when idle. Upgrade to the latest Adrenalin software. Last good version was 22.11.2 or anything after 23.11.1 should be fixed.

Thanks, I ran the DISM and SFC commands and it did find corruption. I will see if this was the issue. I am always on the latest Adrenaline software.
