The situations it's hard crashed in are as follows: Editing photos in lightroom, whether external drive is connected or not. Importing photos in lightroom from external drive. Viewing photos from external drive, regardless of program used or OS used. The things I've tried, in chronological order, are as follows:
1. Unplug the USB hub and change the port that the external drive is plugged into. (Thinking this might be the problem since external drives are known to have problems through internal/external hubs.)
Result: No change.
2. Set "Allow windows to put USB devices to sleep to save power" to "Off" in power plan.
Result: No change.
3. Change BIOS fan curves thinking it might potentially be overheating since lightroom is a heavy load.
Result: Temps never above 75 degrees but otherwise no change.
4. Update windows and AMD graphics drivers (version 24.1.1)
Result: No change.
5. Re-seat SSD and RAM.
Result: No change.
6. Remove one RAM stick.
Result: Issue goes away.
7. Switch to the other RAM stick to test if one of them is faulty.
Result: Issue still gone.
8. Put other RAM stick back in.
Result: Issue still gone, until approximately 2 days later when it came back.
