I'm going to build a new Ryzen setup. But have come to doubt the memory and what is possible.
I use my computer for 3D rendering/gaming so need 32 GB, and would like to run quard channel 4x8
My build will be my old Ryzen 3700X
A new MSI MEG X570 Unify
Kingston HyperX Predator DDR4-3600 C17 QC 32GB -Model HX436C17PB4K4/32
Timing CL17 (17-19-19)
I have checked the QVL list at AMD and MSI. And the Ram is supported by both. But many say it is not possible because Ryzen is locked to 2733mhz on Quard instead of 3200+mhz in dual
The question basically is..
Will i be able to run at 3600Mhz in Quad, or is i limit, and need to be dual insted?
Best regards.
The 3700X only has a dual channel memory controller, but I think you actually mean you want to use all 4 memory slots, in which the answer is yes, the 3700X can do 3200mhz+ with 4 memory modules.
Thanks for the answer mr.
Of course that's what I meant by 4 modules.
If you try to go over 3200MHz, you will probably need to use this:
DRAM Calculator for Ryzen (v1.7.3) Download | TechPowerUp
Will give it a try, tho i dont know how to use it, but can allways look up some giudes
You can read this: https://community.amd.com/message/2904355
There are links to some good videos about overclocking RAM on Ryzen.
Thank you sir.
Remember though, due to the way Ryzen 3000 series processors operate thanks to the dedicated I/O chip, there is negligible difference between 3200 CL14 and 3600 CL17, a fraction of one percent, so save yourself some money and get some 3200 CL14.

Exactly what I did. Supper stable GSkill 3200 4x8.
Thanks man. Thats useful information
Personally as I'm gaming and using my AMD computer I understand that all supercomputers have ZERO LATENCY.
So i set my RAM to be lowest latency timings possible even if it means stepping down mhz to 1866mhz or 1600mhz or whatever and then disable geardown mode and command rate 1T and such.
I've got some Teamgroup xtreme ARGB CL14 3600mhz samsung B-die memory now. But there wasnt much difference compared to my non bdie cheapest trident z RGB 16 memory 3200mhz set at similarly 1866mhz.
I am very disappointed that just by playing around a bit with my mainboards secondary timings I can get my PC to run much faster than when using the fastest settings with the "Ryzen RAM calculator" app linked previously. even more regrettable is that the timings on the RAM calculator only do for 2666mhz min not how to 1866mhz or 1600mhz.
I'm also concerned as my previous Gskill ripjaws V 3200mhz CL 16 RAM and trident Z RGB CL 16 3200mhz RAM had very very different looking refresh cycle timings and minimum mhz and CAS latency timings in the "DRAM Timing info in the bios" from reading the JDEC info stuffs on the RAM sticks once its inserted. I also believe that the XMP profiles maybe dont add much to the experience other than upping the voltage to the desired amount so I just up the voltage to what the XMP profile would want it to be then 1866mhz and tighten all my timings and test out my secondary timings till i get my PC going like a snappy responsive rocket. Am I doing something wrong somewhere somehow? Can anyone enlighten me on the correct timings and settings for my RAM and PC i've an asrock x570 steel legend board and a 2700x and red devil 5700xt 32GB of xtreme ARGB CL14 3600mhz. In the secondary timings basically the S/L ones I do like 4,5 then 6,6 and in the ones for the umm forgot what its called TWR is 10? and the one that wants 2,2 or 3,3 i set to instead 6,6 it speeds up the system a bit maybe? in the primary ram timings i do like 13,13,13,35 o 38 for the TRAS and for TRC i think it was i can do 29 or 32 or 38 or something but my RAM wants 43 or 42 for some reason in JDEC timings..
I thought TRC was supposed to be CAS x2 +10 o something weird maths calc minimum but when I lower it nothing to bad happens. I've found everything games and feels better with TFAW 23 or TFAW 38 (but at 38 sometimes some games characters hair goes funny? like red dead 2 i think it was? maybe not too sure) TFAW is just an active window in general increasing active window doesnt hurt. Can anybody give me some better tips on how to RAM than the false garbage in the Ryzen RAM calculator app for samsung Bdie?
Not sure about corsair but in addition to you MB maker having a QVL list. Some ram manufacturers have validation lists and timings tables for the ram on certain boards and cpus. If not you can ask corsair support and they would be able to tell you whatever you want to know.
HEY GUYS!! i found the best solution to help me setup my RAM.. turns out ryzen ram calculator is kinda dumb and maybe fake..
what you wanna do is get "typhoon burner" and have it load your RAM hardware info and you can use that as a guide to adjust your settings just that right there in the free version for better settings.. or you can purchase it to have it write "extreme XMP profiles" so your RAM goes at its best which i've yet to do as I'm pretty sure the support staff are like world level overclockers and stuff so i'd like to see if i could get them to provide me with more info and support if i were to purchase rather than keep stumbling on my own first will have to see if when i eventually hear back from them.
Out of curiosity, how does your RAM after going through all that work stack up against G.Skill Flare DDR4-3200 (set at DDR4-3333) at its stock settings?
The reason I ask is that the 2x8GB kit is down to $100, and is guaranteed compatible with all AM4 motherboards, and would make it a great buy for anyone. https://www.newegg.com/g-skill-16gb-288-pin-ddr4-sdram/p/N82E16820232530?Item=N82E16820232530
I just did a user bench mark with my RAM at 1866mhz..
https://www.userbenchmark.com/UserRun/32933552
it says i did lousy.. well i didnt overclock anything not my CPU or GPU all stock standard.. but somehow my PC seems to score OK it hates my RAM though? is that AIDA benchmark free to use?
https://ram.userbenchmark.com/SpeedTest/380923/Unknown-TEAMGROUP-UD4-3600-4x8GB
For some reason my Latency was 94 overall? I understand my reads and write transactions would be far lower in GB/s bandwidth than normal as I'm clocked at half the mhz so the number of transactions is lower overall but I was trying for lower latency so games run faster and more responsive. Snappy snappy. windows 10 boots fast enough feels like no loading times.
You can see i had a minimum latency of 49ns i thought thats not too bad maybe?
AIDA64 has a free version with some limitations.
You should likely just let XMP or DOCP whichever you have set your memory. Unless there is a stability issue with its settings.
That is a great price on the Flare X. I would have bought that 5 weeks ago had I seen that price when I built my sons new computer. Spent 70 on some other G Skill. Although it still works great.
Well, just by having samsung Bdie RAM and some affordable components that lots of computers have i beat 95% of the PC's benchmarked on userbench i guess? with all stock but RAM changed to 1866mhz and lower latency
so RAM MATTERS!
I forgot to enable PBO and other things in bios.. i've turned them on and set to 2133mhz now.. not really much better.. got 46ns latency guess i can try crank mhz higher on my RAM.. ?
Ryzen does respond to faster ram and yes a cl 14 at those speeds is preferred.
Honestly the big thing is are you stable.
Tell me about it, I paid $190 in 2017 for one kit, and $125 in April for another kit. It makes sense though, Intel is known to be rolling out DDR5 platforms next year, with AMD no doubt following, so they don't want to get stuck with them. Also that memory kit has been one of the most expensive 2x8GB kits since launch, no doubt due to the tight timings and guaranteed Socket AM4 compatibility, so it's just now getting down in price to what it should have been...
I am way to cheap to have bought it. I would have considered at 100 bucks though. I was however able to get 4x8 for less than 2 sticks of it when I bought. Yes it is a littles slower but works great. If you blink real fast maybe you can tell the difference in speed.
